Manchester LG: Jan Meet-up Recap

On the 24th Jan, myself, @TimBull and @StuartS organised a simple get together over a meal and drinks at the Gas Works Brewbar (https://goo.gl/maps/SSixuo7M7XP2). As always, because I can be quite the cheapskate, I wanted to make use of the deals restaurants were having for January (to shoo the post Christmas and winter blues away)! And what better way to kick-off 2018 than by having a nice meal with fellow Local Guides!!

This year, we were very fortunate to have 3 very new faces to the line-up:

  • PeterW who saw my event advert on Twitter/Instagram and got in touch. Marketing actually works!!!

  • IainG, an old friend of mine from all the way from Scotland who by chance got in touch the night before to say he was in town.

  • HakanH, a huge surprise visitor from Turkey(!!) who happened to be on holiday in Manchester!

Unfortunately, another friend of mine had to pull out as he was stuck on the motorway making his way back from work but he promised he’ll come to the next event!!

Anyway, we had a grand chat over food and introduced the Local Guides program to Peter and Iain (Hakan is a Level 7 Guide so he was busy taking photos already!) and explained the various facets of Google Maps app; where to find your contributions, how to post a review etc. Once the meal was done, we headed over to Bunny Jackson’s (https://goo.gl/maps/5Tu9xyNU8rE2) an American themed bar (free hot dogs with every purchase of a drink after 9pm, classic rock anthems blaring away on the speakers, a pool table, a beer pong table and darts!). Tim was in his element as he got his whisky! And we all had a fun time playing pool in teams of two! Needless to say, I think I shall stick to my badminton!

It was a school night so the partying ended far too soon but it was such a nice event and so great to meet new folks! A massive thanks to Tim and Stuart for helping out with the event and a warm welcome to Peter, Iain and Hakan! And as Hakan is a regular visitor to Manchester (and London!), we hope to see him again!

If any Manchester folks are reading this, feel free to get in touch with myself on here as we have started a WhatsApp group to keep everyone in the loop for future events! You can also find us/me here:

Our next event will be in February (still looking to peg down a date) and Tim is organising this one! It’s going to be a smashing trip on the tram/train out for a visit to a railway museum, a chocolate shop and of course, much drinks and food! In March, I’m hoping to start my photo walks (hopefully it’ll be warmer and drier!). So stay tuned!!
