During my road trip in Malaysia, we made a stop in the city of Kota Bahru, often ignored by tourists. Typical Malay atmosphere, this village still seems a bit preserve by tourism.
I share a great activity that we could do there. I am working in the textile industry, so I was very attracted to a batik “stand” in Kampung Kraftangan. This is a location of handcrafted arts, however, when I went, almost everything was closed. But I was really interested by this stand. After having stopped a few times in front, I meet a man who does not speak english very well, but I understand. He is the creator of these batiks. We talk a little, I learn that he leads workshops, especially for children, but I try my luck. He tells me it is possible despite the fact that it is closed. He installs all the material, and I can start this improvised course!
This man was very welcoming, I highly recommend it, if you want discover batik techniques. He gives you little tips and it is not very expensive. You can also buy his batiks, he reinvents that in a more modern spirit.
