As somebody who has both a personal and professional interest in accessibility, and a passion for helping make the world more accessible to folks with differing needs, being able to add information on accessibility to Google Maps is great. And it’s so easy! Answering questions relating to wheelchair access, for example, only takes a few seconds. As I’m not a wheelchair user myself, if I’m ever in any doubt over how to answer I can always refer to the guidelines here https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Answering-accessibility-questions-on-Google-Maps/td-p/26.
I would hope that in time, the accessibility information offered by Google Maps can be extended to help folks not just with mobility issues, but with other impairments. Perhaps for those with visual impairments, Google Maps could provide information on how a venue or public space caters for Guide Dogs? This information could of course be gathered, and contributed to, by the communities of Local Guides around the world that already help others with their local knowledge!
