Maybe this is something that comes on the “OCD” spectrum, but I’m the kind of person who can’t remember the opening and closing times of the local stores here where I live, for context, I’m from a small town in Argentina, called, “Rio Ceballos” (Or Ceballo’s River for the english enthusiast), and as far as I remember, I’ve been always inside this use of the time of the day where at lunch time every store closes, and they won’t open until late afternoon, the siesta, as we all now, it’s beloved.
So, what happens when you are vague like me about the time your favorite store opens? What if I want to build something and I have to go to the hardware store and after walking for 20 minutes (yes, things are “far away” in this small town) I remember that they don’t open until 5:30PM?
Well, for that, I use google maps, really, I’ve placed so many store’s opening times and closing times, phones, misplaced streets, that I can’t really keep count! And also I can benefit the rest with it!
It’s what makes me feel like I’m adding something to my home town, by helping the guy who just started with his bike store to reflect accurate information about his small business, or the local welder who knows nothing about computers to appear on a local Google Ads campaing to make his profession more visible.
In short, I use my time as a local guide to make sure people don’t miss out about the local places and be sure they can reach their destinations and not be frustrated because it’s closed due to our so beloved Siesta.
