Making San Diego Canyons & Open Spaces VR accessible.

Ive been working on photographing many of the canyons, ridges, parks, and other open spaces around San Diego. I also remove as much litter as I can, often pulling out tarps full of debri.

But my primary goal is the creation of linked 360 degree panorama photos which are then published on Google Maps and viewable using Googles pegman street viewer on your computer, the Google Street View app on your mobile device or ideally by using a real virtual reality headset.

By doing so it will allow for people to walk around these areas as if they were really there but without the risks of hurting themselves. Many people right here in San Diego aren’t even aware of all the beautiful wilderness that exists around them.

Also, as virtual reality technology becomes more mainstream and gains popularity, having these VR tours already complete could also position San Diego on the forefront of becoming a VR accessible city.

VR accessibility will become significant as the techology becomes more prominent and popular in the near future. Google is only the medium for publishing the content in the time being.

I’ve already covered several areas around San Diego; most prominently Juniper Canyon, Normal Heights Open Space Park, Navajo Canyon, Mercy Canyon, Murray Canyon, and I typically spend an hour o re two several times a week trying to get these and all the other canyons around San Diego covered.

Once I have more progress I hope to pitch my effort to the city or a nonprofit organization in hopes of gaining some sponsorship or something, I’m not sure. Currently I setup a GoFundMe account if you’d like to help support my effort.

I’ve also requested twice now to receive a Google Trekker on loan which would really help me but I have not gotten any response from Google at all either time
