Making an Impact is the most interesting thing I’ve done as a Local Guide

It feels great when you can put your opinion and it gets appreciated and approved by multiple people around the globe. This has been possible only with the help of google maps.

I came to know about the Google local guide program when I randomly uploaded a photograph on maps. Fews days later I was thrilled to see the impact that photograph made. The number of views on the photos increased unbelievably, increasing my leadership board and thereby lifting my interest in it. This has deeply motivated me and since then I am an active contributor to Google maps.

Below are a few of the places where I’ve made an impact with the help of google maps

1) Jain Tea Stall

While on a city tour with my uncle, we stopped by on a roadside tea stall for a tea break. It was a small stall located in the heart of the city near Holy Ganges’ riverfront on Truck Union 11, Civil Lines, Roorkee, by the name “Jain Tea Stall”. While having a light discussion on a cup of tea, I came to know the legacy and history of the shop from the owner itself. I found it quite interesting that the shop was 30 years old and famous for its delicious handmade cookies and masala tea.

I was delighted to be there and thought all travelers passing by should stop for a while and taste these delicious cookies along with a cup of tea. That is when google maps struck on my mind. Instantaneously I took my phone out, clicked a few good photographs of the stall, added brief information about it and thus added a new location on google maps.

This is how I created a digital presence of this little tea stall and made it available for the travelers around the globe to find, visit and taste tea of this stall in a small city of Roorkee. By this small input of mine, I was able to bring happiness on the owner’s face and was able to make some impact on his life as well.

2) My School

My school is around 30 years old and has been on the map for quite long. However, there were very few photos and reviews on it. In my recent visit to the school, I clicked a few good pictures and posted them as well on google maps with my review. To my surprise, those photos also got more than 1,44,000 views. I got a call from the school’s headmistress after she saw the number of views thanking me for this magic. This shows the power of google maps.

3) CWL: Indian Cricket Team’s Captain’s favorite place for street food in Gurgaon

Yes, you read it right! CWL- Civil Line Wala is Virat Kholi’s one of the favorite shops for street food located in Gurugram. I visited this shop a few months back and posted my review on maps. My review is getting good attention and has already got more than 10,000 views on the photos I uploaded. The owner is so happy for my review and also gives me a discount every time I visit his shop.

Not only this, but I have also received very good feedback from various hotels and business owners for adding valuable reviews of their business to google maps.

I bought a 360-degree camera last year and now I am also a Street View Trusted photographer. Being a local guide and adding a new location of businessman/ merchant on google maps became my most favorite thing after this which makes me feel proud.

In the end, I want to thank @TraciC for her post “How to write a great application post for Connect Live” and @brittym 's example post which helped me in writing this post. I hope to see you guys at Connect Live 2020.
