Making A True Friend And Learning About New Countries As A Local Guide

Tonight the postman brought the most wonderful surprise all the way from Pakistan to me! I have been so blessed this past year to form a close friendship with an awesome human being, @KashifMisidia who lives in Karachi, Pakistan. I have never met him in person, but we corresponded as Google Local Guides both interested in increasing accessibility for the disabled, and then became true friends. I have deep respect for him as a person. He is a wonderful humanitarian, husband, and father.
So here are some photos of the gifts he sent me. From these gifts I also learn more about the beauty of Pakistan! First, they were all tucked away in a lovely handbag. The handbag is covered with gorgeous, colorful, intricate embroidery detail. Inside was an incredible wrap scarf! It is fringed, and so large, my husband stood up 5 stairs to show it all for the photo! It is stunning! Also Kashif sent some sweets native to Pakistan. We can’t wait to try them!! One is a box of almond cookies and the other is and assortment of fig and nut treats! Yum! Then there are some really unique hand crafted key chains. One is my initial carved in wood with a rose. Then it has a stain glass like inset. When you hold it up to the light it is exquisite! The list goes on!! There are 2 more key chains, and sweet man that he is, Kashif included one for my husband, Joe! It is hard to describe, so please check out my photos! Encased in a crystal are our names written in floating jewels, along with other jewels!
I can’t thank Kashif Abdul Razzak Misidia for his kind, special, thoughtful gifts enough! I am glad that the Local Guides Program gave me the opportunity to make this friendship and learn from him.

Stories like these make me so glad to be a Local Guide, @lynneannec @! It is truly incredible how small the world actually is once we all interact on Local Guides Connect. Very generous and thoughtful of @KashifMisidia to send you a piece of his culture and heritage.

I’ve had amazing Local Guides do the same for me. For instance, recently, @InnocensiaO recently gifted these crafts from Kenya - a keychain and bracelet from her home while she resides in South Florida. So even though we’re about 20 miles away from each other at the moment, she was able to continue teaching me about her country and shared items from thousands of miles away.

That is wonderful @SP31 ! I love the beautiful beadwork! I also recently received some other gifts from another generous Local Guide @Crazychicktwo who not only brought me back many lovely souvenirs from her attending Connect Live 19, but some awesome gifts from her home country of Canada! Since I live in a very small town in Bayou country in Louisiana this is very exciting!

Hi @lynneannec

This is really nice and kind. I love this old way of sending letters and gifts. It’s so much more personal and a better experience. I remember having a pen pal as well long time ago, and we also sent gifts and learned about each other’s cultures.

What a great way to meet new people. Hopefully you get to meet in person as well! Thank you for sharing this lovely story.
