My profession is conducting research works, making presentations in seminars & business meetings and teaching students at a university in economics. I spent almost my entire career (37 years) in one of Korea’s public research center (specialized in trade and industry). So, I have had to be surrounded by rather serious people.
I have been looking for distractions in my personal life, which has led me to be into travel and trees. I would not dare to say that I have traveled much more than other people, but I have just tried to keep my own way of travel, looking for new places (including restaurants) to visit by myself, especially not trying to be too much influenced by others’ recommendations. Fortunately enough my profession has given to me a lot of opportunities of traveling in Korea as well as in many foreign countries, including even Silicon Valley. When I go to new places, I try to make a rapid walking tour in the vicinity of hotels during early mornings and sometimes that walking tour can be extended to 2-3 hours when it is allowed to me. With these experiences and my unique way of traveling, I might be able to say that I tend to try to introduce these new places through my own perspective. Also, I think that my reviews on them can be regarded as very fair (neutral), which might help people to judge these places correctly.
Regarding trees, to which I pay a particular attention wherever I go, I dare to say that I have accumulated a professional level of knowledge. My knowledge on trees is not limited to Korea’s trees, but extended to trees in US, Europe and tropical countries. I think that I can easily provoke curiosity on trees for ordinary people.
Very often I describe characters on the trees that I find at newly visiting places whenever I write stories about those places on SNS. A lot of acquaintances in Korea have shown to me their high appreciation to my explanation on trees, which has resulted in several times of writing short stories in some newspapers.
