Fabulous palaces, the occasional residence of the Achaemenid Great Kings. Darius I began the great construction at Persepolis about 518-516 B.C. It was not completed when Alexander of Macedon destroyed it in 330 B.C.
Persepolis was a sacred national shrine, potent setting for the spring festival, Nowruz.
