Kangchenjunga, also spelled Kanchenjunga, Kanchanjanghā and Khangchendzonga, is the 3rd highest mountain in the world.
Kangchenjunga himal section of the Himalayas lies both in Nepal and India and encompasses 16 peaks over 7,000 m (23,000 ft). In the north, it is limited by the Lhonak Chu, Goma Chu and Jongsang La, and in the east____by the Teesta River.
From Sandakphu, the best view of the mountain Kanchenjunga is possible. Four of the five highest peaks in the world, Everest, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu can be seen from its summit.
This hill is also known as sleeping Buddha or the Sleeping Shiva. If you can clearly view this three top at same time, you could see that Buddha is sleeping. That’s why its called Sleeping Buddha. The name Kan- mean head, chen- mean belly and jungha- mean knee (kanchenjungha).
Also, Tonglu provides the best views of the peak. On a clear day, you can see two of the three highest peaks in the world (Mount Everest Family and Kanchenjunga).
Throwback to the morning when we took the trek up at 6am from Tumling.
