The trip to Gwalior remains incomplete without paying homage to Maharani Laxmi Bai. Who was the central figure of 1857 rebel and was a brave freedom fighter. She sacrificed her life while fighting without a horse in Phool Bagh as her beloved horse Badal died while jumping from a high fortress wall. At this place she was cremated under a Tamrind Tree according to the Rose who was the Commander of Central Indian Field Force against the rebellion.
We decided to visit this memorial in the morning in the October 2019. There was a group of ladies who were performing Yoga as this Smarak or Samadhi is surrounded by beautiful garden. Having jogging tracks and garden benches. Maharani Laxmi Bai Smarak is situated in Phool Bagh, Gandhi Nagar, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. She attained the martyrdom on 18th June 1858 at the age of 29 years in Kotah ki Serai while fighting with the British forces. According to General Rose Rani proclaimed that We fight for independence. According to the Mahabharata we will fight, if we are victorious, enjoy the fruits of victory, if defeated and killed on the field of battle, we shall surely earn eternal glory and salvation. She lived and died for her country, We cannot forget her contribution for India. She was a skilled strategist, extremely smart and extremely beautiful. She laid down her life for her patriotism and the freedom of her countrymen. She is mentioned by many authors in their books, in poetry and many film makers they had manifested her key role in the 1857 revolt. She is a hero among the women’s and symbol of bravery. Mostly girls and women’s institutions are named after her. A sacred fire is always lit at this memorial and a giant statue of Maharani Laxmibai sitting on the back of Badal and son tied at her back is a major attraction.
It’s quite true as today we are living in free India so we must pay our tribute to Maharani Laxmi Bai who fought for us.
It needs half an hour and nearest attractions are Gopachal Parvat, Italian Garden etc. It’s a major attraction among all the national and international tourists.
