Without hesitation, I can say that Mahahual is a little piece of paradise in Mexico. This little town in Quintana Roo is 1.5 hours away from Chetumal, so it will be so much better to fly there instead of Cancun. There is no secret that Mexican Caribbean is one of the most beautiful in the world, and Mahahual adds up tons of beauty.
There are many options to stay, wonderful hotels, cabins and rooms in different types of places, I’m sure you will find one according your budget. I stayed in Blue Kay mini cabin, which has bed, window and 2 chairs in it’s little porch. Bathroom is shared at the end of the hall, which is steps away and it is very clean. This is a very natural experience, but if you want, they also has cabins with private bathroom.
For food and drinks, Mahahual also has variety of food for you: a place with their own mezcal mixology (La Chilangaloense), there is also a place very well known and recommended (Nochoh Kay) which has delicious food and no matter how humble it looks, you will fall in love with it.
If you are person who likes to do activities in your vacations, you can visit Chinchorro (just available in tour) and dive or snorkel. If you just want to relax, visit any beach club you like (Blue Kay, Yaya, Beach Escape, 40 Cañones, Krazy Lobster, Hayhu) and enjoy. Also there are some massage services along the pier, if you want to relax even more.
