Tiger Statue

The Tiger Statue is a part of the five chariots (Pancha Ratha) compound. These were built in the 7th century by the Pallava dynasty king Mahendravarman I & his son Narasimhavarman I continued the construction. Despite their efforts, the monument remained unfinished.

The Tiger statue is also referred to as Lion’s statue. It is a monolith among the three other animal statues in the Pancha Ratha compound. This statue is located at the entrance of the compound. It is known as the Vahana (vehicle) of Goddess Durga. This statue is located in front of the Draupadi Chariot and behind the Elephant Statue. Time has eaten away a lot of details of this statue - still it is worth.

Excellent photos, as usual @TravellerG with loads of helpful information - thanks a bunch for this post.

Does the Tiger signify something in the Pallava Culture?

I remember a huge Elephant statue in the Ellora caves near my hometown, both are equally mesmerizing.
