MADURU OYA NATIONAL PARK
The Maduru Oya National park lies entirely in the dry zone and is made up of tropical dry mixed evergreen forests. The Park spreads over an area of 58, 849 hectares for a wide variety of wildlife including some endemic bird species and reptiles as well as ancient ruins. 15% of the park is constituted by water bodies. The tropical evergreen forest is characterized by Buruta (Sinhala: Satin), Weera, Palu, Divul (Sinhala: Woodapple) and Ehela etc while the open plains are dominated by shrub and grass. The drive is very picturesque. It’s quite likely that you’ll spot elephants while traveling as close as 500 metres away.
