MACRO PHOTO OF AN ORNAMENTAL PIECE WORN BY WOMEN OF SOUTH-WESTERN NIGERIA

Many a times when we think of "Macro", what immediately comes to mind is; “Picture of things that are very tiny especially Insects, enlarged so many times over for better clarity of image and resolution”.

I decided to experiment Macro on something entirely different; “a Piece of Jewelry called; a Pendant” which is worn by many women in South-Western, Nigeria.

I wanted everyone who saw it to have the feel that they ‘had a feel’ of this Pendant in their hand. Ewaade is nice and loves to share, right? :grinning:

TIPS FOR TAKING A MACRO SHOT IN MOBILE PHOTOGRAPHY

My phone has the ‘Macro option’, in case yours has it too, then let’s move ahead.

When taking a Macro shot, you need to;

  1. Keep your hands steady
  2. ‘Move in’ on your subject; a 3-5cm distance to get the best shot
  3. Fill the Frame
  4. When and where possible, use Natural light

There, you have it!

Details of this Photo

Aperture: F2.4 at 2.13mm

ISO: 400

Shutter Speed: 1/25s

White Balance: Auto

Now compare it with another Photo of the same object; the Pendant;

Which of the two Photos make you ‘long’ for it? :wink: :grinning:

This Photo was in ‘Portrait mode’ on my Mobile Phone, I wonder why it’s in Landscape here on Connect. I will Connect had the option to ‘Rotate Photos’ after posting them.

Hi @Ewaade_3A I would definitely go for the macro picture as it shows the details and the pendant is really the subject in the picture.

I love macro and mostly use it for insects. Their details that one can capture are hardly visible to the naked eye.

For this picture of the Hornet i used a technique called focus stack. As the insect is so tiny not much will be absolutely sharp. So what I’ve done is take several pictures with the focus on a different spot and combined these just using the sharp parts of each picture. (Photoshop has a function that does that automatically).
