Lucha Libre in Mexico City

One of the famous things that México is known for is Lucha Libre

Wich is how profesional wrestling is called in México, it´s a tradition in México City, and it has its own arena, which name is Arena México.

The most iconic thing of Lucha libre are masks, most of luchadores ( “wrestlers” in english) weare them, and in some of the most important fights they bet their masks, so if they lose, they have to take them off so fans can see their identity. You can see a lot of different designs and colors.

Lucha Libre has been named intangible cultural heritage in México City.

A lot of tourist attend to Lucha Libre. It is a must if you are in México City, you can see a lot of people (of all ages) shouting not so nice stuff at wrestlers, people do that for relieving stress.

There is even a song that is about Lucha Libre, it is popular and people play it at weddings to make it entertaining

Hi @LaloPadilla

Cool story! Do you often go to these arenas? I’m sure the experience is unforgettable. Are the tickets expensive? Is wrestling happening around Mexico or only in Mexico City? Do you have a favorite wrestler?

This reminded me of Nacho Libre movie. I know it’s a comedy and probably doesn’t represent the true meaning of Mexican wrestling, but I thought of it. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks @NunungAfuah The song is called “Los Luchadores”

At some weddings they even give masks for all the people in the dancefloor

Hi @DanniS

Thanks for asking

Last year it was the first time I went to the Arena, and definitely I will repeat it

My tickets were 400 Mexican pesos ( $21 USD), of course there are more expensive tickets, closer to the ring or in a restaurant in the arena.

They are always on tour around Mexico

When I was a kid my favourite wrestler was Rey Mysterio, he emigrated to WWE in US.

Yeah, Nacho Libre has kind of the feeling of Lucha Libre, I haven´t seen that movie in years
