The most iconic thing of Lucha libre are masks, most of luchadores ( “wrestlers” in english) weare them, and in some of the most important fights they bet their masks, so if they lose, they have to take them off so fans can see their identity. You can see a lot of different designs and colors.
Lucha Libre has been named intangible cultural heritage in México City.
A lot of tourist attend to Lucha Libre. It is a must if you are in México City, you can see a lot of people (of all ages) shouting not so nice stuff at wrestlers, people do that for relieving stress.
Cool story! Do you often go to these arenas? I’m sure the experience is unforgettable. Are the tickets expensive? Is wrestling happening around Mexico or only in Mexico City? Do you have a favorite wrestler?
This reminded me of Nacho Libre movie. I know it’s a comedy and probably doesn’t represent the true meaning of Mexican wrestling, but I thought of it.
