Lotus root is very popular in Asian countries, and especially in China, where it is used in various recipes. Hunan is a region where lotus root is very appreciated. It is healthy and really delicious. I’m a lotus-holic and often eat it in Chinese restaurants of Milan, but of course, it was the time to try some dishes with lotus root directly in China.
We use in India also. The taste is very unique. Many dishes become very special and tasty with the use of Lotus Root. Request you to share more details.
@kroza Most articles don’t recommend eating raw lotus roots, due to the possibility of bacterial or parasite inflections. Older lotus roots might also taste a bit bitter when raw.
But younger raw lotus roots won’t have that bitter taste, it might be an interesting incredient for salads if cleaned properly!
@AdamGT Lotus root is really popular in Chinese cuisine and there are also many lakes in China where you can find lotus. I was already used to eat much lotus root in Chinese restaurants in Milan and still continue to eat it here in China because it is delicious (and healthy too).
Hey @user_not_found , I have tried lotus root when I was in Japan and I like it a lot. We don’t use it here in my country - Bulgaria. As I know Lotus root has a wide range of health benefits
I think only Asian cuisines use lotus root, anyway I strongly believe in Bulgaria you can find some authentic Chinese restaurants and Chinese supermarkets selling lotus root or dishes with lotus root!
Thank you for sharing! Just as you said, lotus root is a must ingredient in Asian and partly Chinese cuisine. While I spent my days there, I often enjoyed eating it in many dishes or simply fried.
After reading your post, I started looking at my photos from China, but it looks like I didn’t quite capture a photo of a lotus root dish, but just as an appetizer.
One of my favorite dishes that I loved ordering there were from the region of Xinjiang as they would often add potatoes and order herbs that would remind me of home.
