Has anyone else had the problem where you check the number of views of your photos, and it’s gone down significantly? I had over 80 Million views about a few weeks ago, and now my view count is showing a little over 70 Million. 10 Million of my views have just disappeared!
Could it be that you are mixing up the the total views which includes views of new places you have added and views of your reviews on top of your photo views?
i will read your reply to Morten’ question on view type
I am NOT saying you have mistakenly done any of the following but if you have old pictures that had a lot of views of those old pictures are gone you can lose a lot fast (but 10 mill seems crazy)
reasons why pictures may have been removed could be
1> have you posted the same picture or a picture almost exactly the same in a review or many of the same picture in error. Then
If those duplicate pictures are removed your views on the deleted or pictures will be removed from your total
(This happens a lot in restaurant reviews where we post several pictures of the same meal in error. ). I have done it… especially when I was new
2> places no longer in existence
a lot of our old favorite places or a place we reviewed years ago has gone out of business closed
I believe ( not 100% sure)
That when a place is gone and deleted from the system the points for pictures associated to with the original place are go away.
I am not a moderator!!!
Check to see if you have a lot of double posted pics or if places you reviewed are history
if double pictures or pictures that are no longer apply because the company has gone bye bye
I think @Dukster gave you a clear and accurate description of the possible reason for having photos made private and loosing views.
Like him, I think that some duplicate is not intentional, but we should check carefully before to upload everything google maps already suggested to upload, and to select only the best photos, avoiding duplicates, redundant photos (very similar) and blurred photos, because not helpful (And also against the
I am pretty on top of not double posting videos and pictures but just to be sure I spent 45 minutes earlier today going back 1 year and looking at all my posted photography
I deleted double photos and some poor pictures…. My total all time picture views dropped 8.1 percent
now that sounds bad but it was only 17 entries I removed out of 600
Google Maps Help page is not very clear in this, @MortenCopenhagen , as they only says “Private reviews, edits, or photos do not count toward your Local Guides level.”
If a photo is no longer visible in the public profile, is the number of visualization counted? I do not have an answer, but I don’t see any other possibility. Excluding a temporary glitch, of course.
A few days ago I checked my old contributions too, @Dukster , and I removed some old photo (poor quality), and a very old duplicate, and my views dropped down of half million
My observation is based on the fact that our photos uploaded to a now extinct place still show and show views in our photo contribution lists. But you are right, that does not prove they are counted towards our total photo views.
To me personally it doesn’t, @Dukster , but well, it is harmless. I follow who can be interesting for me, so I don’t really understand people that is following 30000 local guide.
The number of followers is one way to make money in the USA from companies who want you to advertise their product. But not the place you a writing the review about
mine example
I am in a restaurant and I put a bottle of
Pepsi on the table where I taking a picture of my meal
the restaurant does not sell Pepsi
Pepsi looks at how many followers you have and pays you 2 of 3 cents for everyone who views the picture you took with the bottle of Pepsi on the table
Pepsi looks at how many followers you have and may choose you for this type of advertising program
They look at how many times your picture is viewed to calculate the payment
Because you are not being paid by the restaurant you are eating at it does not violate google rules
Your idea for sponsored content on Google Maps will not fly. First, you will be violating the Guidelines for being a Local Guide. Secondly, I doubt anyone would pay you for doing what you describef. Thirdly you will be misrepresenting the places and not be helpful to Maps users.
I don’t have access to data on the number of views on my individual reviews. Do you? Please share a screenshot.
Earlier a lot of Local Guides thought it was a good idea to like your own contributions. And some even enlisted friends to do the same. Such actions got them suspended from the program.
If you see reviews with more likes than views it could just be an error.
i just want to be sure you understand that I am not participating in any form of making money and I am diligent about following the rules.
I get more satisfaction and have more. Fun catching those who do not follow the rules
As for getting paid for doing subliminal advertising by companies… I will not write about it anymore but I believe in one form or another it is happening.
The number f views per picture is posted on every picture or video we post. Just pull up any picture is shows how many views on the bottom right corner of the picture
I don’t know how to do screen shots on the old phone I use to for guides or I would send it as requested
Getting “likes” …. In the USA getting likes is still active. But it does not pertain to the revenue scheme
In the USA a team member needs a certain number of “likes” to achieve the expert and master reviewer badge
I’m still having issues with my all time photo views. Previous I lost 50k views then went back up to original views and now the views have barely moved since yesterday.
Looking at your profile, I see that you started to contribute in Google Maps just a few days ago.
My feeling is that what you are mentioning is the difference between the total number of your view and the sum of the views shown in each photo.
Am I correct?
While individual photo views are updated in real time, the total views are only updated two or three times a week, and sometimes can get stuck for a whole week. The reason is related to the commitment of resources (computing power) needed to update the views of 150+ million users, and to the fact that this number has a low priority for Google Maps, compared to Navigation
Maybe I don’t understand. I recently just started posting. I was averaging about 5-8 views a day. Then all of a sudden my views dropped by 50k then I received them back and then my view counter has barley moved the past 48 hours.
Now my views went back down 30k plus. I’m not sure what’s going on. Now it went back up 30k. I don’t think I’m getting retro views while all this is on hold.
