Los Angeles my love 💘

Hello people!

After a few days of vacations in Chubut, a province in Argentina really close to my city Buenos Aires, I’m back and ready to tell you more about the city of Los Angeles in California, city who will be the next #statechallenge or #citychallengehosted by @Denise_Barlock and @jayasimha78 and co-hosted by me on September 18th.

Some facts about the city:

  • Population: 3.898.747
  • Size: 1299 Km2.
  • Nicknames: L.A., City of Angels, La-La-Land, The Entertainment Capital of the World & Tinseltown.
  • People born in LA: Angelenos.
  • Highest point: Mount Lukens 1547m.
  • Lowest point: Pacific Ocean.
  • City status: May 23, 1835.
  • Regions: 10 (Downtown L.A., Hollywood, West Hollywood, Santa MĂłnica, Pasadena, Beverly Hills, The Valley, Beach Cities/LAX, Westside, Neighboring Communities).

Why do I love Los Angeles? please, check this post

Some of my favorite places:

Venice Canals

Downtown LA

Santa MĂłnica Beach

Griffith Park

The Grove and The Farmer’s Market

Disneyland and Universal Studios

I like the weird things that you can find when you’re walking in the city, for example:

The “Ballerina Clown”, this cultural landmark placed at the top of the entrance of the CVS pharmacy on Main St. in Venice. This gigant clown dressed in a tutu like a ballerina is 30 feet tall and has an electric motor that makes his right leg execute a slow and noisy kick, but only between 1 and 6 PM (because of the complaints of the tenants of the building).

The “Bordello Alexandra”, the roof of this place is covered in sculptures, like one of Poseidón with diving dolphins, an archangel, gargoyles and a pirate and an owl. Used to be a rumored bordello, now an apartment building.

In one of the entrances of the famous Farmer’s Market you can find the “Travel Angel”. This sculpture is like a tribute to tourists and travelers. The angel has in his wings postcards of places that he has visited.

LOS ANGELES FUNNY LAWS

  • It is illegal for a man to beat his wife with a strap wider than 2 inches without her consent.
  • You cannot bathe two babies in the same tub at the same time.
  • You may not hunt moths under a streetlight.
  • It is illegal to cry on the witness stand.
  • Toads may not be licked.
  • It is a crime for dogs to mate within 500 yards of a church. Breaking this law is punishable by a fine of $500 and/or six months in prison.
  • Zoot suits are prohibited.
  • It is illegal to stage a bullfight in your backyard
  • It is illegal to blow snuff in another’s face
  • It is illegal to bath in someone else’s bathwater
  • It is illegal to fly a balloon more than five feet off the ground
  • It is illegal to wash your neighbor’s car without permission
  • It is illegal to sit on an outdoor restaurant table
  • It is illegal to drive more than two thousand sheep down Hollywood Boulevard at one time.
  • In Los Angeles, it is not legal to wash your neighbor’s car if you have not gotten their permission.
  • It is illegal to pour salt on a highway in Hermosa Beach.
  • Until 2012, it was illegal to throw your Frisbee after the lifeguard specifically asked you not to do so. In fact, if a lifeguard had clearly asked you to stop throwing a football, Frisbee, or another beach toy for safety reasons, you’d be fined up to $1,000 if you failed to comply. Guess you should always listen to the lifeguard.
  • It’s illegal to charge entrance at any house party held in Los Angeles.
  • Women should take off their coats before getting behind the wheel. It’s forbidden by law for women to be seen driving with their winter coats on.
  • It’s illegal to skateboard or rollerblade in a courthouse or library in L.A.
  • It’s forbidden by law to ride your bicycle through a swimming pool.
  • It’s illegal in Los Angeles to report a motel with a cockroach problem to the postal service.
  • In Glendale It’s illegal for owners or caretakers to take their dogs into an elevator in an office building (unless you have a service dog).
  • Also in Glendale, it’s illegal to jump into a passing car, unless the vehicle is going below 65 mph, and It’s illegal to drive your car in reverse.
  • Santa Monica laws state that it’s illegal to play percussion instruments on the beach.

I could talk about this place for a long time but I think all of you have already gotten a good close up to this eclectic, wonderful and fascinating city.

What do you know about Los Angeles? Have you ever been there? Did you like it?

Greetings.

Silvy.

What a nice trip down the suburbs of LA, a break away from the regular Hollywood Boulevard and Beverly Hills.

The beaches, canals, and parks are a sight to behold.

Superb photos @SilvyC

You’re really suitable to become the guest host for LA #CityChallenge @SilvyC

I know how much you love about Hollywood. We have talked and shared a lot about it on Connect as well

“Women should take off their coats before getting behind the wheel. It’s forbidden by law for women to be seen driving with their winter coats on.”

This rule is a bit weird, but that doesn’t matter as LA doesn’t have winter, just windy

But again, I still remember how hard to find a car park in LA .

See you on the meet-up! Excited for this one.

Gran post @SilvyC !

What a wonderful post, @SilvyC and surely, it clearly proves why someone should love the city of Angeles. I particularly enjoyed the funny laws of Los Angeles. I can’t think of bathing in someone else’s bathwater, even if it was not illegal. I wonder if the dogs know the law of not mating around the church! If I ever live in LA, I will never dare wash my neighbor’s car without their permission. I have been to LA quite a few times. But never knew about these laws. Thanks for sharing it Silvy. Next time I will be careful not to drive in reverse.

By the way, I am still wondering, who rides a bicycle through a swimming pool?
