Looking for accessible friendly places around the world

Hi!

I am from Sweden. My primary focus on Google maps is to share places that’s accessible friendly for wheelchair users. I have lots of tips both on Google maps but also outside/private experience that I want to share. We are a large group (including all the elder people) who wants to discover the world on our wheels, electric wheelchairs, crutches, walkers etc. Don’t forget our (large) target group.

I am also the first one in Sweden who made the municipal in my hometown to build a accessibly :wheelchair: :dog: friendly dog park. I did it through a citizen proposal and with lots of networking and a sponsor.

In my every day life I am working in a NGO association named Funkibator where we mix entrepreneurs and (dis) ability. We challenge norms in the society. We also produce children books for the general preschool with adventures where we include unique challenges, and where we challenge norms and where we all have some (dis) abilities in our team see more at www.funkibatorforlag.se

That is so exciting to know @Travelonwheels

Welcome to Connect :handshake:

Why don’t you post the story of how you convinced the municipal to build an accessibility-friendly dog park?

Looking forward to your story.

Finally, I would also recommend changing the setting to display the picture in a larger size. That would look awesome.

If you are using a Desktop Computer, here are the steps:
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/How-to-Display-Photos-in-Large-Size-in-a-Connect-Post/td-p/2818094

If you are using a mobile device:

  1. Open the Chrome Browser.
  2. Change the settings to ‘Desktop Site’.

Then edit the post using the steps in the article.

Fantastic summer and I am looking forward your help

Awesome. I spent 2 summers in Sweden, touring with an English speaking theatre group. It was awesome and I loved the country. Worst decision I made was not to stay. Good luck with your endeavors.

شكراً لك مرة أخرى تجديد الحياة من الإنجازات والصداقة المستمرة

I would love to. It was amazing but I’m getting a bit too old to start galavanting around countries. But it would be a dream come true. I’ve lost touch with the people I met and cast I went with……it was about 30 years ago. I stayed in some super amazing places. Met some incredible people and learnt stuff about myself.

I’ll put it on my bucket list as you never know what life will bring.

Hi @Travelonwheels ,

Welcome to Connect and thanks for sharing your inspiring story with us! I agree with @TusharSuradkar , it would be very interesting to read more about your initiatives in our Local Stories board. :slightly_smiling_face:

In the meantime, you could also tell us more about you joining our monthly conversation where new and old Local Guides get to know each other: Introduce Yourself - October 2021.

I also wanted to let you know that I removed the language tag from your publication since you wrote in English and the tag should only reflect the language of the post. In the following article you can learn more about the topic: How do I find posts in my preferred language?

Nice to hear! Sweden is my everyday life and I am more longing for warmer places, and that are accessible.

But nowadays I trie to travel more closer to home cause of the restrictions.
