It was May 29, 2015 — a warm evening at one of Dhaka’s premier convention centers, where excitement buzzed through the air. We had gathered for Google I/O Extended Dhaka ‘15, a special event that live-streamed Google’s annual developer conference straight from Mountain View, California.
Due to the 13-hour time difference between California and Bangladesh, the event in Dhaka was scheduled during the night to align with the live broadcast. The venue was vibrant with passionate developers, tech enthusiasts, and curious minds eager to catch every moment of the keynote and product launches.
In between the main live sessions, Google provided brief time slots to various global communities to present their local initiatives. It was during one of those precious 10-minute segments that we had the incredible opportunity to introduce the Bangladesh Local Guides community to the wider audience.
Back then, the Local Guides Connect forum didn’t exist. Most of our interactions and promotions revolved around Google+, the social platform that once played a central role in community building. But despite the limited tools, the passion was real, and the journey was just beginning.
Today, thanks to a reminder from Google Photos, I stumbled upon a few pictures from that event — sparking a wave of nostalgia. I felt compelled to share this memory, not just as a look back, but as a way to celebrate how far the community has come since those early days.
