Locations with the same name merged incorrectly

Hello everyone,

I live in Panama City (which is in Central America), and my hobby is to correct mistakes on Google Maps and add missing features.

In Panama City, buildings don’t have numbers but only names. And sometimes it happens that two different buildings have identical names. In particular, there are two different locations called “Villas Del Golf”:

67X22F3R+H4: a 5-story apartment building

67X22F3V+JM: a complex of several 3-story houses

The names are clearly visible on the photos.

I noticed that the second location (the housing complex) is not indicated on Google Maps. I created a point and added the photo.

After a couple of weeks, I encountered that the location I added has disappeared, and the photo is attached to the first one. Apparently moderators (or some automated system) noticed that two locations have the same name and merged them. But these are actually different locations. And my photo is now incorrectly attached to the wrong location.

What should I do in this situation? I added feedback to my photo that it belongs to a different place, but a month passed with no result.

Is it indeed wrong to have two locations with the same name? There is another such thing nearby: two buildings (67X22F2Q+QM and 67W2XFXP+P7) are both called “Vista Verde”, which can be seen on Street View. Though, on Google Maps they have different names: “Vista Verde del Parque” and “Vista Verde Tower”. Should I also invent another name for the housing complex for it to be accepted?

Thanks for your efforts to keep Google Maps clean, @GoblinAlchemist

I have been successful a few times by creating the second pin further away, and once approved moved it to the correct position without the merge happening.

But I would recommend you seek on this in the Maps support forum.

Hit the Community tab at the top and make a post. You need to attach or link to official documentation supporting the change you are proposing. Copyright-free governmental maps are probably the best proof you can attach.

Also, deep links to Google Streetview images (or other photos) with the building(s) names visible are helpful.

Without official documentation you will not be successful.

Best of luck
Morten

Oi, @GoblinAlchemist

What should I do in this situation?

I added feedback to my photo that it belongs to a different place, but a month passed with no result.

Is it indeed wrong to have two locations with the same name?

Should I also invent another name for the housing complex for it to be accepted?

Gil

Thank you for your answers! I will try to find relevant details about these locations and create the housing complex again.

I had clicked on the photo which is now incorrectly positioned, and the only possibility I found back then was to report a problem. Now I realized that it’s my photo anyway! I found it in “Your Contributions” and deleted it. Now at least there are no misplaced photos :slightly_smiling_face:
