Local Shops Win the Day in Mumbai Jaiswal Fruits
Anyone looking at these photos will say that this shop is just a Shanty. Yes it is. And so are hundreds of shops in places like Mumbai. Jobs are scarce and little or no formal education leaves a large number of persons with no other choice than to start small or what I call “Nano Businesses”. But such formats of retail provide an income to so many and ease of shopping to so many of us. Such shops are conveniently accessible.

There is a Lemon and Chillis hanging upfront for good luck. The gentlemen told me that they were low on stock due to the lock down. And could I please come after a couple of days to take more photos?

The Grapes are Sweet & so is the Watermelon. I know because I bought them.
The precincts may be nothing to write home about but they have mobile phones & mind you smart phones, they accept mobile wallet payments and they also accept payment by card. What more can one ask for?
During the lock down all the Modern Retail shops in our locality shut shop. But the small guys are doing a yeoman service by keeping the show on.
