Honestly, what I like to share on Google Maps is about the people. Yes, quite often the business gets the attention. However, I love to show businesses that have warm hearted and kind people. People that want to make a difference in his/her community. People that are not just about earning money and a living.
My interest and intentions have changed and grown as I have gotten know the community of Cork city.
Some places are about sustainable living or having a low impact on the environment. Quite often these shops are specialty coffee shops and restaurants. However, there are the local markets. These place don’t necessarily have a store front; however, when s/he is in a market, I’ll snap a photo and post this photo. Essentially, these are the people in our community. They are looking to create a space that they can pass on to their children. Some shops are about eating healthy and tasty food. Others are about the holistic approach to life. Others recycle and reuse items for art or to resell.
As I have learned to listen and understand each person’s struggle I have learned to highlight their business. Each place has a story. Each place wants to be acknowledged and appreciated. Yes, I am still vulnerable to the big corporations, as they are often the easiest to capture. However, with a bit of patience and kindness, the little businesses start to understand and appreciate the assistance.
So, for me, I like to share businesses that are attempting to make a difference in his/her community. They make a difference by providing a living wage, quality products, and attempt to provide sustainable products.
