Local italian food

Today I would like to take you in a journey in northern Italy, close to Venice.

Here people like cod very much and the main local dish is called “baccalà con polenta” which translated is “cod with corn flour”.

People like it all through the year but I suggest to eat it in winter:it’s very tasty but if you don’t like “strong flavors”, then it’s better not to try it.

Another dish is “risotto with radicchio di Treviso” which is “rice with radicchio of Treviso” but you can have also crepes with it. This radicchio of Treviso is also very known but you have to pay attention because the original one has long red leaf (not round short leaf). The taste of the risotto is very nice and if you come in Veneto you have to try it. This is a dish you can try from December to April.

From middle April to middle June (or end of May - depending on the weather) you can taste the white asparagus of Bassano: tha’s also very famous in Veneto, mostly in Bassano del Grappa. You can have a whole lunch or dinner with starter, first course, main course all having the white asparagus as main “actor”. The main dish is “asparagi e uova” which is “white asparagus with eggs”: white asparagus are cooked (boiled into water) and eggs are also hard-boiled (in a separate pan). Then you put the asparagus in a dish together with 1 or 2 eggs (per person). Cut the eggs in half and crumble them. Put oil, salt (and pepper if you like it) on everything and…enjoy !

That’s all for the moment…let’s keep in touch for others nice and tasty Italian dishes !! Cheers !
