Local Here, Local There...Local Everywhere!

Hello, hello! I hope this post helps everyone wanting to not only be a local guide in their own community, but I want to encourage you to be and act local no matter where you are! I stumbled upon being a local guide in 2018 and it’s been so much fun!

Some unexpectedly helpful things I have found along the way, especially for my personal business as a mortgage loan officer:

*Connect all your social media accounts to your main Google account. Being able to cross post, especially if you are a small business owner, helps with your rank in Google. I’ve gotten more clients from Google than any other social media platform.

*Set up your Google My Business page and post regularly! (If you are a small business owner)

*Have a short, catchy and easy to remember handle/user name that is the same across all platforms. Continuity is your friend!

*Be real - so many photos and posts are staged. Give an honest review and post pics that are not edited too heavily - people are relying on what you post to help them make decisions. I take real pics of a real experience and try not to be so “staged.”

Remember, your experiences are unique and interesting to YOU and sharing those experiences as local guide - whether in your home city or the places you go - help others to have unique and interesting experiences as well! If you want people to find you or your business, be the resource that helps them find what THEY are looking for!https://youtu.be/nJmx8MlfCNc

Thanks for sharing your story and video @okcgal1 and I agree what you say.

Thanks for the advice. You hit the nail right on the head.

Hi @okcgal1 ,

Thanks so much for your contributions as a Local Guide and for your first post in the community!

I would like to invite you to introduce yourself in this monthly post and greet the other new Local Guides on Connect. If you’re interested to learn the latest news about the program, please follow the announcements and the Help Desk articles.

I’m going to move your post to the Local Stories board on Connect where the Local Guides are sharing how they improve Google Maps and what they like the most about being Local Guides.
