Local guide program is almost like a digital diary
to me which I use like a logbook
to track my activities, express myself to the community and share the gratitude towards the community by giving back ![]()
My name is Naveen and initially I was never aware of the local guides program. I have moved from hometown to Bangalore for work. Like every person, I found it very
to commute to workplace without knowing the local language and found myself in boredom during the weekends. During a weekend, when I craved for an authentic south Indian restaurant
, I used Google Maps to reach the destination by walking itself as suggested by Google, which was more quicker than my usual ride to office
. From then onwards it paved a new way for my life and I got a big enlightenment in my personal life. My boring weekends started to transform into a fun filled adventurous getaways either local or some nearby places.
After several weeks of using the Google services, the app itself suggested me to review some places through which I can help the other commuters / persons to enhance the service. So I started reviewing the places I have visited without much consideration, as soon as possible in order to give a competitive edge to other users.
I like to travel and explore new places. In order to plan my travel and know about the local culture I used Google Local Guide platform.
Recently I have moved to Bangkok and like I mentioned earlier I used Google services to guide myself to have more fun. Recently I have received from some goodies from Google for helping people. Till that time I was never aware of these rewards and my respect towards Google increased further. Because initially I though Google was just collecting some data analytics to improve the services, however when I came to know that it was even recognising the individuals without expecting nothing in return to improve the overall performance was a big wow factor for me.
I see the local guides platform as an integrated pane of glass, which provides more and accurate results by individual like minded people who provide feedback from the heart rather than paid travellers used by some travel blogs.
Some of my moments I have shared below:
Hungry find at 1 AM in Bangkok Streets
Hidden beach location in Pattaya
Sweet souvenir from in Vietnam
Falls near my hometown
