Traveling was the most interesting thing for me and my wife since our wedding day.
We start to do it from our honeymoon in 2002 and keep doing 1-2 journeys per year till these days.
We live in Moscow, Russia, and tourism for both of us means travel abroad.
At that time, preparing for the trip required a lot of time and effort. Discover the forums, read travel reports, making the list of interesting places, exploring public transport routes, etc.
We did it each self and after few weeks seat atr the quiet place (like restaurant) to share what we gather and work out a final journey plan.
Especially we have to do it because of communication problem our English level was not really sufficient to check all the questions on place.
It was a great time, but we spent really a lot of time for this preparation procedure. To find a really good places, positive experience and not to get lost or get into binding :).
Currently, thanks to Google local guides and Google maps I can quickly check all the info and find the interesting places in minutes. We can decide either to go or not to go to the restaurant by the real reports from the real peoples, but not only by the name and façade design
It saves time and also increases the level of self-confidence.
And now I realize that thanks to modern technologies I can easily find an interesting place to go in unknown city or country, doesn’t matter if it is a long time stay (vacation) or short free time window (during business trip). And I can not only use this, but be the part of it and share my own experience to make somebody’s trip better.
PS: side effect is that making photo has sense again :).
