While there are different guiding opportunities in different countries and cities, this post is about the movers and shakers, the top Local Guides actively contributing and achieving by different metrics including points, photo views and star photo views. The leaderboards give some indication as to who are the top Local Guides out there pounding the pavements guiding and impacting on their community by way of their contributions, leading to more points and of course more photo views and brighter star photos.
If you’re not listed in the Movers & Shakers leaderboards and believe that you should be then you can make this happen by registering and it’s simple to do, just hit this link. If you want to know more see this excellent How-to post by @AZ_2021.
Reading the Movers & Shakers leaderboards (September 2023)
Briefly, this is what you need to know about the leaderboards in this post. For more details about the Top 100 leaderboards see the leaderboard documentation:
Simply stated, the term Movers & Shakers in this post is used to describe the Local Guides that have achieved the most in terms of overall Local Guide points, photo views and star photo views over the past month. Therefore, the leaderboards in this post indicate how active each participating Local Guide has been over the past month as well as the performance of their photos and star photo in terms of views over the same period.
To explain the different metrics used in the Movers & Shakers leaderboards we will use the following simple example. Sarah, a Level 8 Local Guide, uses the T100 System and updates her data on the 28th of each month. For simplicity of explanation, she updates her data every 30 days! The following table summarizes her key data as at 28 April and 28 May::

(a) The Delta Points is the value of the points earned by a Local Guide over the past month. In this way, Sarah’s current Delta Points is 4,000 [ 24,000 - 20,000 ]*.
(b) The % Delta Points is the value of the points earned by a Local Guide over the past month expressed as a percentage. Therefore, Sarah’s current % Delta Points is 20% [ (4,000/20,000)*100 ].
(c) The Delta Views is the absolute value of the total photo views gained by a Local Guide over the past month. Thus, Sarah’s Delta Views for that month is 1.8m [ 16.8m - 15m ]*.
(d) The % Delta Views is the value of the total views gained by a Local Guide over the past month expressed as a percentage. Therefore, Sarah’s current % Delta Views is 12% [ (1.8m/15m)*100 ].
(e) The Delta Views/Photo is the average photo views gained per photo by a Local Guide in the past month and for comparative purposes, this gives a simple measure of the overall quality of a Local Guide’s photos in terms of views gained per photo; the higher the Delta Views/Photo the higher the quality of the photos! Therefore, Sarah has a current Delta Views/Photo of 180 2,000 [ 1.8m/900 ].
(f) The Delta Views/Day is the average photo views gained per day by a Local Guide in the past month and for comparative purposes, this is another metric that gives a simple measure of the overall quality of a Local Guide’s photos in terms of views gained per day; the higher the Delta Views/Day the higher the quality of the photos! Therefore, Sarah has a current Delta Views/Day of 60,000 [ 1.8m/30 ].
(g) The Delta Star Views is similar to the Delta Views however in this case, it represents the views gained over the past month by a Local Guide’s most viewed photo, or star photo. Therefore, Sarah’s Delta Star Views is 30,000 [ 4.06m - 4.03m ]*
(h) The Delta Star Views/Day is simply the average Delta Star Views per day over the past month. Therefore, Sarah’s star photo has a Delta Star Views/Day of 1,000 [ 30,000 / 30 ]. This metric gives a simple up-to-date measure of the quality of our star photo in terms of views gained per day*.
If you are a participant in the Points, Photo Views, Star Photos and Country leaderboards and haven’t updated your data in the previous month and in time for the leaderboards posted here then you will obviously not be included in the Movers & Shakers leaderboards.
If you registered in May and are thus a new participant on the Top 100 Leaderboards then you will not be included in the Movers and Shakers this month simply because you do not have a prior month’s history.
If you updated in your contributions data in the previous month but not in the month prior to that then you will also not be included in this month’s Movers & Shakers because your Delta Points would be across more than one month and this would unfairly distort the idea behind the Movers & Shakers which looks at the points and photo views movement (i.e. the delta points) in the one month.
In summary, the Movers & Shakers leaderboards only include those Local Guides who regularly update and have especially done so over the last couple of months. It’s all about creating that level playing field and comparing apples with apples.
Where shown, around leaderboard sequence numbers indicate that this is the Local Guide is a new participated on the Top 100 Local Guides leaderboards.
An asterisk (*) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Connect Moderator.
Double asterisks (**) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Googler.
Selecting any of the Connect Usernames will take you to that Local Guide’s Connect Profile.
Local Guides included in the leaderboards must check their entries for any errors. If you should find any errors or omissions, please add the details in a comment on this post.
Please note that making comparisons using metrics such as delta points and delta views must be done carefully. In my view it is better to use points per day or views per day for comparative purposes and you will find these in the Core Vitals section of the T100 System!
Thanks again for all the hard work you put in to making for a more exciting presence while volunteering our time as LGs.
I’m noticing a possible calculation issue from the formula written above:
(d) The % Delta Views is the value of the total views gained by a Local Guide over the past month expressed as a percentage. Therefore, Sarah’s current % Delta Views is 12% [ (1.8m/15m)*100 ].
The amount of views from the previous month of views is used in calculating the percentage of Delta Views, as I would expect. However, since I submitted 62.635M views last month, and had 68.208 NEW views this month, I would expect the above calculation to be above 100%.
But, if I used this month’s total to calculate the percentage (130.843M), I’d end up with ~52%, what you’ve indicated in the table. Thus, either the formula above is incorrect, or the calculation in the table is. I’m only pointing this out because it’s become more apparent, since it’s my first time to be posted in this Movers and Shakers table, and my month to month growth rate makes the error easy to see.
It is my immense pleasure to see myself make it to the list and that too at #8. It really makes me contribute more and more everytime I open my Google Map app.
@shunsader the % Delta Views is the number of views you’ve amassed in that month, shown as a percentage of your total profile views. The 68M new views you had in August are 52% of your current overall photo views.
What you say is true, if measuring from the total including that month’s views. BUT, the notes are not worded that way:
(c) The Delta Views is the absolute value of the total photo views gained by a Local Guide over the past month. Thus, Sarah’s Delta Views for that month is 1.8m [ 16.8m - 15m ]*.
(d) The % Delta Views is the value of the total views gained by a Local Guide over the past month expressed as a percentage. Therefore, Sarah’s current % Delta Views is 12% [ (1.8m/15m)*100 ].
Notice that Sara had 15M views at the beginning of the month, and BEFORE the end of the monthly total. Letter (d) specifically divides her 1.8m views by the beginning of the month, not the 16.8M views, which includes the most recent month’s data. - Steve
@shunsader The math works if done the way discussed. I can’t speak for @AdamGT and his intent, but I’d take a guess that the notes were simply a typing error. The boards are very text rich and mistakes are bound to happen.
You’ve clearly been adding a lot of photos, to essentially double your views in a month! You should be a Level 10, in no time.
Aside from the table calc not matching the note formula, I think that it has to do with the context being used. The table data represents the percentage of the total data being generated in the previous month, whereas the note calculation is representing Percentage of Change. In the accounting and financial world, current numbers are represented relative to previous numbers, Week over Week, Quarter over Quarter, and Year over Year (WoW, QoQ, and YoY respectively). Comparisons done relative to previous timeframe make it easier to see improvement (or reductions), and perhaps is more meaningful to what portion of data was generated relative to the total.
A good example, using this month’s data, would be that of @IzzyOz , whose views grew DRAMATICALLY over the past month. Knowing how many % more than what she had at the beginning of the month might be more meaningful than what percentage of data came from last month. Calc wise, her (d) calculation would be: (376,231/41,687)*100 = 902% , or roughly 9 fold. That’s a HUGE growth, but will diminish as her base number becomes larger. I was there a few months ago when I went from 1.2M to 20M in a single month.
My vote is to be using the calculation from the notes, as I believe it represents the spirit of the T100 system.
“% Delta Views is the value of the total views gained by a Local Guide over the past month expressed as a percentage.”
I interpret that just as the words state:
Total views gained over the past month - would be the Delta Views
-expressed as a percentage - of the Total Views
I don’t read it as a percentage gained over previous month, but as a percentage overall. I understand that the notes give a different equation. However, the math has consistently been the same. So, I’m sticking with the equation was a typing error.
Maybe you can convince Adam to add another column? Or you could always just do that math yourself, then share your progress in a Connect post!
Can you please check “Photo Views Movers & Shakers Leaderboard (September 2023)” as I notice that all entries in the column Delta views/ photo show “0”.
@AdamGT The Movers & Shakers April to May chart above is fine by way of explanation, but the reference to May in Point #3 sounds confusing as we are in September now. That statement would only have been applicable in June. At Point #4 you correctly state “previous month” and “this month”.
@shunsader and @Mikeinthefalls I believe the intention based on reading the notes is to express growth as a % of your previous position. The problem is that new guides like yourself and what you quoted about @IzzyOz present an anomaly. Your growth in the second or third month could very easily be greater than your number in the first month when you were off to a slow start. Maybe this is the error @AdamGT expected us to discover.
@Mikeinthefalls thanks.
Happily leading the table in the last few months and it is indeed great clocking over 3.07m daily views.
However, there are two giants ranking above me ( @AdamGT may have a good explanation to the reason the table does not show it)
According to my own tracking @TorM is still pushing ~3.7m daily views (so should have been doing about 120m views this month) - very respectable indeed.
And then, there is the true master (we’re really not worthy) @Herve_Andrieu clocking (ahem) ~11m daily views (that means a whopping ~360m a month).
They are still (IMO) the undisputed real movers and shakers.
