Introduction

This post is about the top Local Guides actively contributing and achieving both the most points and views from photos, star (most viewed) photo, star video and star 360 sphere contributions on Maps. The leaderboards give some indication as to who are the “movers and shakers” out there pounding the pavements, guiding and impacting on their community the most.

Readme - Reading the Movers & Shakers leaderboards (May, 2024)

Briefly, this is what you need to know about the leaderboards in this post. For more details about the Top 100 leaderboards see the leaderboard documentation and the Leaderboard System’s online context-sensitive help information.

1. Simply stated, the term Movers & Shakers in this post is used to describe the Local Guides that have achieved the most in terms of overall Local Guide points, photo views and star views over the past month. Therefore, the leaderboards in this post indicate how active each participating Local Guide has been over the past month as well as the performance of their photos, videos and 360 spheres, and their respective stars in terms of views over the same period.

   To explain the different metrics used in the Movers & Shakers leaderboards we will use the following simple example. Sarah, a Level 8 Local Guide, uses the T100 System and updates her data on the 28th of each month. For simplicity of explanation, she updates her data every 30 days! The following table summarizes her key data as at 28 April and 28 May::

   (a) The Delta Points is the value of the points earned by a Local Guide over the past month. In this way, Sarah’s current Delta Points is 4,000 [ 24,000 - 20,000 ]^*.

   (b) The % Delta Points is the value of the points earned by a Local Guide over the past month expressed as a percentage. Therefore, Sarah’s current % Delta Points is 20% [ (4,000/20,000)*100 ].

   (c) The Delta Views is the absolute value of the total photo views gained by a Local Guide over the past month. Thus, Sarah’s Delta Views for that month is 1.8m [ 16.8m - 15m ]^*.

   (d) The % Delta Views is the value of the total views gained by a Local Guide over the past month expressed as a percentage. Therefore, Sarah’s current % Delta Views is 12% [ (1.8m/15m)*100 ].

   (e) The Delta Views/Photo is the average photo views gained per photo by a Local Guide in the past month and for comparative purposes, this gives a simple measure of the overall quality of a Local Guide’s photos in terms of views gained per photo; the higher the Delta Views/Photo the higher the quality of the photos! Therefore, Sarah has a current Delta Views/Photo of 2,000 [ 1.8m/900 ].

   (f) The Delta Views/Day is the average photo views gained per day by a Local Guide in the past month and for comparative purposes, this is another metric that gives a simple measure of the overall quality of a Local Guide’s photos in terms of views gained per day; the higher the Delta Views/Day the higher the quality of the photos! Therefore, Sarah has a current Delta Views/Day of 60,000 [ 1.8m/30 ].

   (g) The Delta Star Views is similar to the Delta Views however in this case, it represents the views gained over the past month by a Local Guide’s most viewed photo, or star photo. Therefore, Sarah’s Delta Star Views is 30,000 [ 4.06m - 4.03m ]^*

   (h) The Delta Star Views/Day is simply the average Delta Star Views per day over the past month. Therefore, Sarah’s star photo has a Delta Star Views/Day of 1,000 [ 30,000 / 30 ]. This metric gives a simple up-to-date measure of the quality of our star photo in terms of views gained per day^*.

2. Local Guides that haven’t updated their data in the previous month and in time for the leaderboards posted here will not be included in the Movers & Shakers leaderboards.

3. Local Guides that updated their contributions data in the previous month but not in the month prior to that will also be excluded in this month’s Movers & Shakers because their Delta Points could possibly be across more than one month and this would unfairly distort the idea behind the Movers & Shakers which looks at the points and photo views movement (i.e. the delta points) in the one month.

4. New Leaderboard participants will not be included in this month’s Movers and Shakers leaderboards simply because they don’t have a prior month’s history.

5. Local Guides that have not updated their star photo, video and/or 360 sphere details in the month covered by the respective leaderboards will be excluded from the Average Views/Day leaderboard.

6. In summary, the Movers & Shakers leaderboards only include those Local Guides who regularly update and have especially done so over the last couple of months. It’s all about creating that level playing field and comparing apples with apples.

7. Where shown, around leaderboard sequence numbers indicate that this is the Local Guide is a new participated on the Top 100 Local Guides leaderboards.

8. An asterisk (*) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Connect Moderator.

9. Double asterisks (**) shown after a Connect Username indicates that that Local Guide is a Googler.

10. Hovering over a Local Guide’s username will display the integration number that integrates that Local Guide’s details on the Leaderboards System and Connect; the umbilical chord if you will between the two disparate systems.

11. Selecting a Connect Usernames will take you to that Local Guide’s Connect Profile.

12. The data for the leaderboards in this post was read at 10;10 AM on June 2, 2024 (UTC).

13. Local Guides included in the leaderboards must check their entries for any errors. If you should find any errors or omissions, please add the details in a comment on this post.

    • Please note that making comparisons using metrics such as delta points and delta views must be done carefully. In my view it is better to use points per day or views per day for comparative purposes and you will find these in the Core Vitals section of the T100 Leaderboards System!

Hello everyone,

Hats off to all you movers & shakers and just take a look at the likes of @Lukas_1 and @JustJake . In the case of Jake with a delta for the 12 months to May of 281K+ points, why that’s almost 3 times the points required to become a Level 10 Local Guide but instead of years of pounding the payment, he did this in a month. Then of course there’s Lukas with that massive 840K+ delta points equivalent to well over 8 times the points required to become a Level 10 Local Guide and again all earned in just one month!

Now we mustn’t in any way undermine the obvious effort that both Jake and Lukas have had to put in to earn those massive increases in points in one month because obviously there must have been considerable time and effort spent in doing so. A BIG congratulations to you both and to everyone else that gained points from contributions over the year and especially in recent months.

When it comes to photo views, @abermans with an increase of over 1 BILLION views in May is certainly very impressive, as is the 703K+ and 527K+ increase in delta views per photo by Local Guide couple, @MelTG and @Mikeinthefalls . These are certainly big and very impressive delta numbers.

When looking at star photos, the almost 178 million gained in views by @SvenJacobs 's photo of Grand Central Terminal is mind blowing. What a “grand” photo that is!

Sadly, we have nothing to gloat about when it comes to video and star video movements in May! And it would appear that the same applies to star 360 spheres! Is this correct or have I made a mistake? Please check and let me know. If no mistake, then maybe next moth

These are definitely some BIG moves this month, @AdamGT . @Lukas_1 & the rest of the TRAC Team really made a big push in the last month to collectively hit 100,000 roads added to the Map. I will most definitely not be such a shaker on the June Boards, but it’s great to see so many of us high up on the list this month.

Hello @AdamGT this doesn’t look right. Am I correct that we’re measuring the Delta as the difference between end of May and end of April? Please see below:

My Points increased a lot due to participation in the TRAC program, but it was more like 4,000 rather than 12,000

My Photo Views could not have jumped by 87% or nearly 9 million as you have here. My records show 380,000

My Star Photo Delta views shown here as 2,388 is incorrect as the figures in my records on April 1st and May 1st remain unchanged until today June 24th. Absolute zero.

Strange enough @AdamGT while I agree with your statement that “we have nothing to gloat about when it comes to video and star video movements in May”, my experience was the complete opposite. I had an increase on my Star Video during May, but NOT on my Star Photo.

My apologies @JustJake and @Scheria I never put the TRAC badge as my Connect signature, but I certainly did my bit in the campaign. Even now it’s done, I’m still TRAC-ing, and I can see the results in Movers & Shakers points.

As I recently did with @JustJake , it’s now time to investigate and see if we can sort out your issue but I have to say that in Jake’s case it was relatively quick and easy because we did it off Connect. Anyway, let me start by having a look at your data and come back to you with questions.

Edited: Actually, it would help me if you could tell me which of the leaderboards you believe you are missing from and supported by data you have.

Hello everyone,

You will see that in his comment here @tony_b raised concerns about the points, views and star photo movers and shakers leaderboards that I posted on June 24. Time poor as I was at the time, I just didn’t have time to investigate the discrepancies in the numbers as reported by Anthony. Earlier today I found a couple hours and did just this and discovered the explanation for the discrepancies.

In error, the movers and shakers leaderboards that I posted on June 24 are in fact based on annual (12 months) and not monthly movements, my bad. Hence for example, the 12,617 delta points shown for @tony_b in the Points Movers & Shakers Leaderboard are the delta points in the year to May 2024 and not the delta points that he gained in the month of May which are 4,431.

This correction certainly paints a different picture in the lay of the land, I mean just compare the year-to-date and month-to-date star photo movers & shakers leaderboards and welcome back the star video movers & shakers leaderboards. Generating and posting these leaderboards is certainly no walk in the park

I apologize to everyone for the mistake I made and in the comments following, I will be posting corrected leaderboards. Thank you @tony_b for first checking and then bringing this to my attention and I apologize for the delay in investigating and correcting this mistake. Once again this just goes to show why we all need to check the Leaderboards once they are posted.

ps: To avoid any possible future confusion, I have renamed the movers & shakers leaderboards posted on June 24 to Year-to-May leaderboards. Anyhow by virtue of this mistake we have both year-to-date and monthly movers & shakers
