When I tell my friends and colleagues about being a local guide, they are like : a local what ? So this is the part when I explain a little bit what I do.
-
I answer a few questions of different places I’ve been. It helps for example people in wheelchair to choose a bar to go, accessible for them. It helps people to know if it’s a noisy or a quiet place. If it’s a high-price restaurant or an affordable one.
Just a few questions to answer, that will help so many people to decide and chose where they want to go. -
Reviews : another and really important thing. Beside the part when I tell you I’m working in marketing so I know how important it is to have reviews from customers and employees, I personally think it’s helpful to everyone. A well detailed review, whether it’s a 3-stars or a 5-stars review, is going to help, locals and tourists, to make a choice. For example, there is this place one of my colleague told me about, she found it great. We went there twice now, the place is nice, not the best restaurant in town, but still, our food was fine and everything, and in my review, I decided to give details. For instance, that there are mostly meat plates (I know that more and more people are vegetarians now, so it might help them to avoid eating just a lettuce), I let people know that the place was offering lunch menu (ideal for people working in the area), that I especially enjoyed the French fries (you have no idea how hard it is to find good French fries) and also, that the decoration of the place was really nice (looking for a date ?).
Every details count. Something I might have like somewhere, is a thing someone else would also enjoyed or on the contrary, a decisive element for another person to avoid the place. The more details you gave, the more helpful you are.
Also, when I’m not too hungry, I try to take pictures of the food or the place. I think it helps to project ourselves.
For now, I have to be honest : I mostly have written about restaurants. Want to now why ? Unfortunately, I’m a peaky eater… and I’m not (at all) proud of it. But, when I like something, it means that even more people may like it. And when I don’t like a place or the food in a restaurant, I try to be honest and explain what exactly I didn’t like, so they can improve themselves.
Sharing is the key of a community, and every local guide is helping someone, as much as we are help when we’re reading reviews. So let’s all have a good time, and don’t forget to share your experiences !
PS : they are some points I haven’t talked about such as edit errors on some places or simply add missing places. There is so many things to do as a local guide, don’t you want to join ?
