Local Guides, Local People

Have you ever imagined how could it be having people from a city you’re visiting in some spot, and finding them for asking local advices?
This is a question I’ve done to all the tourists that are flooding to my city, Catania, for 5 years more and more. Some of them are asking me as well “There aren’t info points in your city, why?”, and then I cannot answer. Catania in particular doesn’t want people to stand in front of monitor looking for some advice, Catania wants strangers to talk to local people, and viceversa. So, to accelerate this process, it could be easier to be a part of it! At the start of the spring, some friends and I went to the city center to stand still to some crucial places, and every time we saw some maps waving confusedly on someone’s hands, we approacched those who were struggling and asked if they want some advice, and it worked! One time a couple had not so many hours to visit the city, so we lead them to the main places the city could offer in that amount of time, a second time a family want to eat the best ice cream of their lives, a third time we helped three girls to find a hotel and talk to the receptionist (who had some problem with english!). At the end, I think that the public administration must think that Local Guides could be the main sponsor of the city, a sponsor promoted by the same citizen!
