@AdarshUmangRaj Sounds great, I can’t wait to hear all about it.

@IlankovanT Awesome!!! Our Buenos Aires meet-up on Saturday went really well too, however, balancing history with accessibility continues to be a challenge. :frowning:

I have put in a meet-up in Berlin. Myself being in a wheelchair I know how difficult it is to navigate through google-maps having no clue about accessibility. Germany is not like other countries where accessibility for all people is a standard. Hope a lot local guides and others will join the meeting.

This month, we’ve invited you to join us in adding wheelchair-accessibility information on Google Maps. A fun way to do that is to hold a meet-up with fellow Local Guides.

It’s been invigorating reading how excited — and passionate — you all are about helping others!

So far, 70 Local Guides from around the world have organized meet-ups focused on wheelchair accessibility — and that’s just in the past two weeks.

Coming up, over 120 meet-ups are on the calendar in places places like Gurjarat, India, Tomsk, Russia, Vancouver, Canada, and Batticloa, Sri Lanka. Check out g.co/localguides/meetup to see if a meet-up is being hosted near you. If not, why not host one yourself?

When you’re out and about at one of these meet-ups or contributing wheelchair-accessibility information to Google Maps, don’t forget to share your discoveries on social using #LocalGuides and #a11y.

The Local Guides team is hosting meet-ups in Copenhagen, Surabaya, Buenos Aires, Santiago, London, New York, and Tokyo. We’ll be posting highlights and livestreams on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, and YouTube, so be sure to follow along.

As for me, I’ll be co-hosting tomorrow’s meet-up in Buenos Aires. I can’t wait to share my experience meeting Local Guides and learning about accessibility in the city!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I host a meet-up?

Local Guides Level 3+, head on over to g.co/localguides/meetup to get started. Share info about your event on social using #LocalGuides and #a11y (the global hashtag for accessibility).

How do I learn more about hosting a meet-up focused on wheelchair accessibility information?

Please see this post which contains everything you might need to host a meet-up of this kind.

Do I have to host an accessibility meet-up in September?

You can host an accessibility-focused meet-up any time to help Google Maps reflect the real world.

Why wasn’t I invited to the Google-hosted meet-up in my city?

Spaces were limited, so invitations went out to a small number of top Local Guides in each city. Keep contributing to Google Maps for a chance to be selected for future perks.

Hi @vkrishnan824 . As Connect is a public forum, please do not share private information here. I’ve removed your email address to help protect your privacy. Please see g.co/localguides/meetup to see if there is an upcoming meet-up in Bangalore and if not, perhaps you may want to host your own?

Hi @zacharyweeks . Sorry to have missed your question. Any Local Guide can host a meet-up though the Local Guides team is currently not partnering externally. We’re happy to take note of your organization’s name and be in touch in the future if possible.

Hello @TraciC ,

I hope you are doing well!

My name is Guerman Botten and I am an Accessibility Consultant at AbilityNet. I recently received and accepted an invitation to the wonderful Local Guides meet-up on the 28th of September in London which you are organising, focusing on adding accessibility information on Google Maps. I am very much looking forward to attending, but was wondering if it would at all be possible to bring along another member from the AbilityNet team?

We are all very passionate about enhancing accessibility and feel that this would be an incredible opportunity to help out further!

Hi @GuermanB . Glad to hear you are excited to attend. As noted on the event page, guests are not currently allowed at these Google-hosted meet-ups. We’re excited to hear that AbilityNet is interested in what we’re doing, however, as I shared in a post above, we’re not currently partnering externally but I’ll be sure to take note of your organization’s information for future consideration. Thank you.
