Sometimes it happens a business place owner replies to our reviews. It can be a good reply, or a bad one in case we have written a bad review. But how to behave with bad replies? I have tried to go deeper into this aspect of Local Guide experience,
When a business place owner replies to your review, three situations may actually happen.
Good reply: this is basically what you expect when you write a good review. A good reply is something which may give you desire to go to that place again, having already experienced friendliness of the owner.
then there are two possible situations which may happen when you write a bad reply:
good reply with apologies → it happens when the owner of a place realizes something was wrong and he truly feels sorry for this. Why not giving him another chance by going to their place again?
bad reply → the worst thing which may happen to us, a business place owner who refuses any critics. What to do in this case? Never get provoked and never get intimidated by any words of the owner, as a honest review without insults or similar things cannot be legally sued.
In my video I went deeper into these aspects a Local Guide could face st some point.
Thanks for the guide, it’s really appreciated and will help a number of new guides with reviews though and this is important for guides to know one shouldn’t be discouraged from writing bad reviews.
Unfortunately, people can and will take bad reviews in a bad way though truth be told they really shouldn’t as it does happen from time to time and it’s actually an opportunity to improve if need be.
Furthermore as pointed out by the video, you can get a really bad reply that threaten you. This shouldn’t be taken to heart and doesn’t mean your a bad person for giving it and once again shouldn’t discouraged you from writing bad reviews.
Personally myself I’ve revisited some of these places and in some cases reedited the review with an addition that reflects they have made improvements though in some cases I’ve left the review as is.
Remember, anyone can give good and bad reviews / reply’s just like you.
Thank you for sharing your tips, as additional information, we take your privacy very seriously, so you’re free to use whatever name you’d like for your Google account (i.e. it doesn’t have to be your real name) or you can use a nickname.
Additionally, you can leverage a variety of tools that can help keep you safe and keep your information private and secure.
It will be great that you can share your tips also in a written form where other Local Guides can read it. It’s great that you shared a video about it but the way you shared it seems like self promotion and it is against our program rules.
Have already shared my video tips or insights into food or different cultures on Connect in the past (for example https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/8-Delicious-Asian-Food-Not-Known-Among-Western-People/m-p/1215322#M248679) and) and have never had problems, other Google Moderators always replied to them without noting me there was a possible violation (for example in the post linked, got replies from @Petra_M and @LilyanaZ and never been warned for possible violation of rules, the same in other posts with other Google Moderators), so I always though it was okay to share these videos, being them just another way to share tips or nice facts about food or cultures and being my channel entirely dedicated to Local Guides Program…
For me there is no problem in stopping sharing them if you believe it’s against rules of the program, despite until now it seemed it was okay to share them, and so am actually a little confused about why past videos have been accepted before.
It is not wrong to share your thoughts, insights or tips in a form of video, because I am sure other Local Guides will appreciate it.
My suggestion is best to also shared some of the information from the videos in a written form, where other Local Guides can both read and watch the videos if they want to.
Because when you only share the thoughts via a video, it will seems like self-promotion. I hope this will give more clarity.
Hi @AngieYC , thank you for your explanation and sorry for having not understood it previously. As I’m using my phone most of all times I usually find it more easy to record my thoughts in videos and that made me concentrate much of the information here.
I’ll edit this post soon by adding more information also in a written form and will do the same in my next posts.
Don’t worry, I understand some people feel more comfortable to share their thoughts by talking, sometimes I do too because you can hear their tone and see their facial expression.
I also know that you always try to create interesting topic discussion here on Connect, and we highly appreciate that.
Thank you for your corporation and looking forward to read more about your interesting stories.
