About ten months ago I moved from Rosario, Argentina to Valencia, Spain. I have seen that awareness of the importance of “accessibility” is shared in both countries, especially for what is perceived by people who, in general, are very supportive of people who have some difficulty especially mobility.-
However, because of economic, cultural or political contexts, I have noticed that in Valencia the concept of accessibility has taken a step further towards what is known as universal design. It is evident that both urban planning, as well as services, and the design of more modern buildings such as reforms in the most antiques, tend to a greater awareness that accessibility is not a problem for people with disabilities , but for various circumstances, we can all face the hostility of design in certain situations, which has dissipated prejudice and preconceptions, and has changed the axis of the problem that no longer falls on people but in the environment.-
So I note that in general, people who have some kind of physical limitation face a friendly city in terms of accessibility with ramps, with sidewalks in good condition, with adapted bathrooms, and with spaces in shops and Services that allow easier displacement.-
Yes I could say as a negative point that for example although the buses are quite limited in terms of space, this is compensated because the allocation of places for people with reduced mobility or requiring to be placed with baby carriages is almost 40% of the Totalida D of the interior of the same, as well as they have seat belts, and timbre at an adequate height.-
Yes in terms of transport, some Metro stations may not have a good signaling, which facilitate a little more displacement within them.-
But in general what is seen more clearly is that people with reduced mobility either for reasons of accessibility of the city, or by the greater access that is perceived to wheelchairs or electric cars, have a more active social life than in Argentina Lamentablem Ente.-
So both city and business, offices, public and private buildings, as the transport service, I can say that in terms of accessibility Valencia is a city that facilitates the displacement of people with mobility Reduced.-
