The thing that I most like to share in Google maps is the evaluation from places I visit, giving people the same help that I had from them when I don’t know a place that I’m (want to) going. Very often I use the Google Maps and the Local Guides to find restaurants when I am hungry and in a new place. It helped me in very difficult situations where people around me didn’t know how to explain the way to the place and the kind of food (I have a lot of restrictions). So every time Local Guides ask for my help to evaluate a place, I do it with enjoyment. If I already do it in flesh for “lost tourists”, why not do it virtually?
The pictures are a sample of flavors that you can find in Rio de Janeiro - except the pic#1, that isn’t to eat…
1 - Clay Earth Planet by myself to illustrate the will to travel . As i didn’t made yet my huge world map (cork) to hang in my living room to pin all the places my family and I visited . Mostly because of my 6 years old son that plans to travel all the world. So every place that we had visit or he had visit by himself will be marked there.
2- Set of spices from my favorite Spice Shop - Bombay - Rio Sul Mall (Botafogo) . There you can find all kind of fancy spices to give a special touch to your recipes. Other good place to buy spices, nuts and even a good snack is Casas Pedro
3 - How can we think about Rio without “Açaí na Tijela” (bowl of açai berry)? It is my and thousands of other “cariocas” (people that were born in Rio de Janeiro) favorite fruit preparation. Ice Perfect for stand the heat in the “wonderful city”. This one is from Boomerang - Rua Paissandu 122 - Flamengo.
4- The Arabian cousine is intrinsic in Brazil due to the large immigration from Lebanon, Syria and Turkey. There is no birthday party without kebab (Arabian fried meat balls). This set in the picture with lentil’s rice covered with fried sweet onion, tabule salad and kafta is from El Gebal, located in Saara Popular Market (subject for another post), Rua Buenos Aires 328, close to Santana Park and Brasil Central Station (the same one from the movie!).
5- Hamburger is now universal. I guess that there is no place in the world where you can’t find a burger or kind of. Recently Rio de Janeiro is passing through a “hamburger gourmet” fever (that may be subject for another post - places for gourmet burgers). This one is from Meat.co located inside Organomix (organic food market - another post). Meat.co sells excellent cuts of meat for yourself to make at home, or you can choose to buy some ready to eat in the store. This burger is made with tenderloin and the fries are made of sweet potato. By chance you can find me there as I work very close and I love to buy my organic food and eat these wonderful meat in lunch. This Organomix is located inside the Casa Shopping mall (Av Ayrton Senna 2150, P block).
6 - “Romeu and Juliet” or “Goiabada com Queijo” (guava paste with cheese) is the most traditional Brazilian desert. I guess that there is no restaurant in Brazil that doesn’t has this combination in its desert menu. This one is a variation as a Sundae made with Cheese Ice Cream and Melted Guava Paste. You can find it in Cozinha Mironga - Urban Cousine (Av Rio Branco, 19). They have an excellent broad steak that you can eat after you visit the Museums located at the area of Praça Mauá.Bellow follows the link for the map I made with these places pinpointed.
