I am a jazz singer from Taiwan. I have moved to Denton, Texas since 2015. One thing I love to do is to go to the live music events. I love to follow my musician friends’ giggling schedule and find many cool venue for authentic jazz music.
Scat Jazz Lounge is a famous jazz venue in Fort Worth. It is in the basement and you have to travel through a mysterious elevator to get in. The venue is in a speakeasy-style club. The live jazz is awesome. I love to come here to listen to some of the best local jazz singer.
Another venue that I visit most frequently is the Free Man Cajon Cafe in Deep Ellum entertainment district. They provide authentic cajon food and a great taste of live jazz performers. The owner of Free Man is a legend businessman in Deep Ellum. He started the Free Man Cajon Cafe when Deep Ellum wasn’t a hot spot for touring and music. Now he just opened a second store (Bourbon side) next to the original one (French Quarter side). His new store has bigger and fancier stage. It’s a cool place to hangout!
Once a month Z Grill and Tap invites local jazz big band to play. I love to go there after work because of its casual vibe. The big band usually perform their original compositions. It’s a blessed to listen to jazz big band in a live setting!
