Hi @FlameFox …Tembagapura city is a mining city. Many people come from many countries here to work, the mine itself is about 30 minutes from this city. The height is around 2000m above sea level. The temperature is around 13 degrees Celsius. There are several festivals in Papua, the most famous of which is the Festival of Enchantment of the Asmat Tribe as a Unesco version of the world heritage. One of the most interesting is the typical carving. The festival exhibits carvings of the Asmat ancestral statues and the uniqueness of their culture which is a tourist attraction. This festival is held around October every year. Access to the Asmat Regency in Papua can be via Timika airport.

Thank you for clarifying on this @jon69

Is it a highly urbanized place and what are the biggest attractions in this town?

yes, and the biggest attractions are Festival Kamoro and Festival Asmat. The Kamoro are one of about 300 tribes in Papua. Unfortunately, the Kamoro tribe is not yet widely known as a number of other tribes in Papua, such as the Dani and Asmat. Kamoro tribe has very rich cultural wealth, ranging from natural rituals, traditional ceremonies, carving, plaiting, to various dances and handicrafts of artistic value. Interestingly, this tribe that inhabits the coastal region of Mimika Regency, West Papua has 12 types of crafts with various forms ranging from painting, carving, sculpture and various other forms

This is a very interesting fact about the place, @jon69 ! Have you got any photos from previous editions of any of these festivals? Your post could become even more interesting if you add them with description about the different rituals, perhaps.

unfortunately @FlameFox , i don’t have the photos, the festival is far from Tembagapura and I had no chance to join it but you can find the carved sculpture photos from internet, maybe someday I can take photos by myself
