Light Festival Jerusalem - 2019

The Light Festival in Jerusalem is currently under way. This is the eleventh time that the festival is being held. During the festival, the Old City painted in countless colors, with dazzling lights and cool shapes.

The festival is usually held in June and presents illuminated works of art by artists from all over the world.

This year the festival was divided into 3 tracks:
The Blue Route - from the Tzahal Square near the Jerusalem Municipality compound, along the western wall of the Old City, through the gates of Jaffa Zion and the Ashpas to the Davidson Center the Temple Mount and the Al Aqsa Mosque.

The Red Route - From the Jaffa Gate through the Old City Market, such as the Morristan and the Christian Quarter, to the new gate in the northwest of the Old City.

The Green Route, from Tzahal Square to the north-east, along the Old City wall, to Zedekiah’s Cave, through the New Gate and the Damascus Gate.

Along the routes of the festival you can enjoy the music of street musicians, human sculptures, interactive exhibits and lots of human joy of locals and tourists from all over the world.

The festival will take place until Thursday, July 4th from 20:00 to 23:00 and is free. It is recommended to get to the area via Jerusalem’s light rail and descend at Safra Square Station, which is adjacent to the beginning of the routes in Tzahal Square. It is recommended to bring food and drink because there are almost no shops or restaurants near the festival area.

If you visited the festival this year or in the past, please share with us pictures from your visit in comments.

Thank you @SunshineNY !

EU, US and some other countries citizens do not need prior to their visit.

Although there are a lot of other countries that do need to get a Visa in orders to visit here.

Did my post gave you a reason to think about it?

Hi @Avsha ,

Thank you for sharing these lovely photos with us.

The city looks so colorful and festive. I visited Jerusalem many times, when I was in high school, and my memories from the city are that it’s very hot and not that colorful (maybe only yellow, because of the stones that the city is build from). I would like to visit it again, so maybe next year I will organize a trip with my family for the festival.

Thank you @PaulPavlinovich .

This is an invitation to visit the festival :grinning:

It looks beautiful, @Avsha ! I was in Berlin during their Festival of Lights last year and it was so nice, it seems like a different, and great, experience in Jerusalem because of

the mix of “modernity” with lights and the

historical architecture of the Old City.

Thank you for sharing this festival with the nice photos!
