Light Bloom at The Desert Botanical Garden

Here in Phoenix, Arizona, we are so very lucky to have access to many parks and nature preserves. One gem in The Valley is the Desert Botanical Garden. The Garden gives a wonderful opportunity to see how beautiful the desert really is when most people think we live in a dry, bland landscape. But, what I most enjoy about DBG is their creative ways to intermingle art and nature, often doing so at night when the landscape takes on a completely different vibe.

Currently on exhibition is Light Bloom by Ukrainian and Canadian artists HYBYCOZO. The artists use intricately designed and cut metal to create sculptures that look amazing in the daylight, but at night the sculptures are lit from within and project their beautiful designs all over the desert landscape.

In the past, and now part of a limited permanent collection, the Garden featured works by the glass artist, Dale Chihuly. Unlike the fragile glass, these sturdy steel sculptures were accessible for getting up close, and in some cases even interact with the art.

So, while I always recommend the Desert Botanical Garden be on any Phoenix visitor’s bucket list, having an opportunity to catch a night-time exhibition makes for an extra special treat. I was very impressed by the work HYBYCOZO arranged for this show. The Garden staff and Exhibit Curator did an amazing job making everything flow together.

The Desert Botanical Garden is open year round to visitors. All areas are :wheelchair_symbol: accessible and paths are clearly marked and flat. The Garden is very family friendly, just watch the little ones because our plants can poke, stab, and bite .

Thank you for checking out the DBG with me!

Thank you, Jay. I’m happy you’ve been able to visit! I hope they are able to make some of these permanent like the couple Chihuly sculptures that are hiding around the Garden.

I hope everyone can understand the sarcasm with my brain power disclosure. I needed a break from Gemini

I agree! Plus, I’m sure it doesn’t hurt that ticket sales can extend into the evening hours, too . That is definitely a good selling point during the hot summer months. Thank you for visiting my post. I hope you do find your way out to our side of the world some day.

@JustJake I’ve pretty much only done offroading in Phoenix. I guess I’ll have to be serious with my list for our return on 2026 :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
