I am posting again as iam not getting any clear solution or response from the Google local guides team. @AriMar I have brought this to your notice before, we as guides take the levels achieved a matter of pride, it gives us bragging rights too. I have seen my profile level change randomly from level 9 to 7 to 8 and same with my points and badges. I have got standard template solutions from other Google Moderators asking me to clear my cache, logout and login, restart, etc. I clearly see that there something wrong with the platform. I would appreciate if any of the Google team members could give me a solid explanation or solution to this issue. I have realised that it’s not just me but tons of local guides facing the same issue which is prrof of the vastness of this issue. We do understand that the team behind this have put in a lot of work and time. We are ready to help in whichever way possible but we need clear communication. Can you please give more details about your missed points? On which kind of contributions did you missed the points? Please read Points, levels, and badging
Of course a technical issue is possible, but in any case I want to inform you about the most common reasons for points to drop:
- Answer removal: Points can drop depending of your setting for Google’s My Activity . Please read: How do I delete my answers to questions on Google Maps? and make sure about your setting. If it is different from the screenshot here below, your answer will be deleted, impacting on your points
- Points may be also deducted if your contribution is determined to be in violation of the content policy. Contributions that violate our policies do not count toward your Local Guides level.
A feedback will help to give you a more specific reply
Hi @RatishNarayanan as @ErmesT has already mentioned we need more information to understand the issue. If you need moderation assistance from a moderator in the future, just make sure to tag one of the Google Moderators.

I feel this way since I joined the Local Guides program and I still have some technical problems. Before joining the program, Google should write such a warning to each new user about the side effects of the LG program.
@ErmesT thank you for your reply, sure - my points dropped 10000+ and iam sure it’s not because of my answers removal or content policy.
My level dropped to 7 from and got back to Level 8 but my local guides account still shows Level 9.
This up and down of points, level and badges has been happening for over 8 months now and I have been reporting it.

@VasT @ErmesT I did not mean to spam or harras anyone tagged in my previous post, I tagged the people in the post as I think they might have an answer. I had reported this issue since few months and never received a concrete or clear answer as to why is the fluctuations in levels, badges and points is happening.
I have been a guide for long enough and understand the policies, faqs. This is a big technical glitch.
My level has gone from 9 to 7 to 8, my points from 55k to 36k to 42k and my badges change every week.
You can look at my local guides profile it says iam level 9 and when you take a look at my profile on maps it says level 8. Check the screenshots that I have added for your reference.
Would an of you know why this is happening
@user_not_found some of my friends are facing the same issue but are confused and sad that they lost their level and badges. They put so much time and effort into becoming top neighbours but all of it gone and no one at Google has a clue why. Farcry for most of them and they quit being a guide. I am not quitting as I lobe being a guide and want to fix this not only for myself but also the other fellow guides out there.

@VasT I have shared all the information on the message threads. When you say “more information” can you be specific so that I could provide that specific information
I have gone down 11000+ points, My Badges keep fluctuating I went from level 9 to Level 7 and back up to Level 8 currently while my local guide profile shows Level 9 constantly. Can any of you OG’s, Moderators or Google team give a clear explanation and not tell me to look at the guidelines and policies, anyone…?
I will certainly not refer you to reading some standard text.
In stead I will share my theory on what is going on when so many local guides experience points missing and levels going down and up almost at random.
The data that we create as local guides are stored on several servers. Only at some intervals an other server starts the process of tallying the efforts of each local guide. I think this happens as often as approximately every second day. And when this tallying server requestes data on your individual efforts some of the other servers might be busy or fail and hence leading to you getting lower totals. Then in the next tallying proces there might not be any issues. Hence our points score comes back.
I believe this can explain most of the points problems we see.
One other reason is if you have your answers to questions removed automatically every 3 or 6 months in your google history.

@MortenCopenhagen I love being a guide and contributing but I will not stay quiet if all my time and effort is just getting lost because of an error at Google end. So disappointing.
We can easily agree that this problem is very irritating and annoys a lot of local guides. And I’m sure the moderators would pay an arm and a leg to get it fixed ASAP. Mainly because points are the only reward we get.

So true, iam taken aback as I have reported this issue so many time and the Google Moderators have responded rarely and when they did they said iam spamming when I was just trying to get an answer since 3 months now. I am loosing hope day by day and hope it does not lead to me deactivating my account and getting out of local guides.
If you see even now, none of the moderators have responded.
@RatishNarayanan I’m not really in a position to provide you with any specific answer (being a Connect moderator, meaning: just a local guide like yourself), but in your case it sounds to me as if there might be multiple issues playing together. There have been unexplained points fluctuations with points/pictures/reviews ( and the badges linked to them) in the past, but those usually get fixed by themselves within 1 or 2 weeks. But sometimes it takes longer; I have personally not been able to see my previous edits in Your Contributions for several months before it was one day fixed again.
In your comments here and in your previous thread, I have not seen a reply to the suggestion made by @ErmesT and @MortenCopenhagen about the possible link to the My Activity setting you might have that can lead to points disappearing. Can you confirm if this is the case or not? That could be part of the puzzle…
