LetsGuide Podcast Episode 45: Adding Roads - Continued

Adding and editing roads has been a bit of a hot topic in recents months in the local guides community, so I decided to make another podcast episode on that very topic. And this time, it’s not just my personal interpretation of things, as part of the episode is a Q&A with Jason, a Googler working on the road editing features of Google Maps - he’s sharing a number of very useful tips, so this is defiinitely an episode you’re not going to want to miss!

Listen to it via the podcast website, or in any podcast player of your choice.

**Hi Mr @JanVanHaver **

I have some questions I want to ask you how can I contact you. ?

Thanks for giving me your time

@Salahalhayek I would say: depends on the topic of the questions. If it is about road editing, then just post them as a comment here. If it is another topic, it will be best to create a new post here (in the How to section) and tag me. Other local guides can then also provide answers.

If it is about the podcast, just send an email to letsguidepodcast

@JanVanHaver one of the important Q is about the local guide in IRAQ There are a lot of ways and places that were written wrong. I have modified and sent them, but they have not been improved. In addition, I want to establish a community of local guides in Iraq, as there are many communities in other countries. Can you help me with this?

@Salahalhayek in some countries local guides are simply not allowed to make changes, due to local political circumstances or general attitude towards US based companies. And I guess Iraq will be one of those. This can only be changed by Google at the highest level, so nothing we can do about that.

About community building: most local communities are built on social media, typically Facebook. Which one is lost popular in your country?

@JanVanHaver Facebook is the most app used in iraq can i make community in facebooks simply and says it’s verified from google or there’s point to follow that google made it with guidelines ?

You can indeed simply create a group on Facebook (like I did for all Dutch speaking local guides), but you definitely can’t claim it is official or verified by Google. Actually you need to clearly state that the group is unofficial and you’re not allowed to use copyrighted terms (such as Google or Google Maps) in the group name (but you can mention those in the group description of course).

Hi @JanVanHaver ,

Great podcast once again. I’m honored that you mentioned @SholaIB 's TRAC challenge and our common goal. We will reach 50k roads this week and are all very excited to do so.

Thank you for bringing us answers from “the source” and helping everyone get a better look into how road mapping works.
