Let's Travel To Jakarta

Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia has its own magnet for many people. Not surprisingly, every year the number of migrants continues to increase. Far from that, like other regions in Indonesia, there are many tourist attractions in Jakarta that increasingly add to the attractiveness of the capital. Jakarta is also a great place to learn more about Indonesia’s complicated history, and you can visit a variety of culturally and historically significant locations such as the old town and the port which will give you a glimpse of how the city would have looked in past times. As well as harking back to the days of old, Jakarta is one of the most modern cities in Indonesia, and you can spend time embracing this cutting edge side to the city at its famous malls, bars, and restaurants. Jakarta may be crowded, loud, and busy, but it certainly isn’t boring. Here are the best things to do in Jakarta…

  1. Visit Monas Tower: The National Monument, or Monas (a contraction of its name in Bahasa - Monumen Nasional is the most famous monument in Jakarta and stands proud in the city as a symbol of independence in Indonesia which was declared in 1945 after years of Dutch colonial rule. The monument is located in Merdeka Square which means ‘freedom’ in Indonesian and there is a gallery where you can learn more about Indonesia’s often tumultuous history. The main draw, however, is a trip to the observation deck at the top of the tower which affords views in all directions across the city.

  2. Enjoy Old Batavia: Kota Tua also goes by the name Old Town Batavia and is one of the most historically significant parts of Jakarta. As you walk around the area you will find a pretty architecture that dates from the Dutch colonial period and you can also visit the cobbled central town square which is the signature feature of the area. This is seen as the cultural heart of the city and many artists and photographers gravitate here to take in the relaxed atmosphere and old-world feel, and the area is also studded with cafes so you can have a drink and enjoy the surroundings. It also has a high concentration of museums so you can learn some history here at the same time.

  3. Visit Toko Merah (Red Shop): is a Dutch colonial landmark in Jakarta Old Town, Indonesia. Built in 1730, it is one of the oldest building in Jakarta. The building is located on the west side of the main canal Kali Besar. The building’s red color contributes to its current name.

  4. Visit The Jakarta History Museum, as the name implies, Jakarta History Museum is the learning center of Batavia’s (old Jakarta) history. The museum, also known as Fatahillah Museum. The Jakarta History Museum was originally used as the City Hall building (Stadhuis). This building is the second City Hall building that was built during the VOC administration in Batavia. The Old Batavia Museum features Dutch relics that settled in Batavia since the XVI century away. The collection consists of furniture, Weapon, Ceramics, map, books. This museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Monday and national holidays. It greets vacationers from 9 AM to 5 PM a day. The provincial government guarantees an interactive historic tour at an affordable price for everyone.

  5. Visit Kali Besar (de Groote Rivier) refers to the channel connecting Sunda Kelapa in the north to the south part in the old town of Jakarta, parallel to Ciliwung River in their east disemboguing at the heart of the old city of Jakarta. Literally meaning Grand River, this channel is now part of Kali Krukut (Krukut river) in Tambora subdistrict. After renovation since 2016, Kali Besar has become an interesting place to visit and take photos. Kali Besar is located behind the Fatahilah Museum area and is surrounded by historical buildings full of history.

  6. Visit Museum Wayang: The Wayang Museum (Indonesian: Museum Wayang) one of the museums dedicated to Javanese people about the world of puppetry. The museum is located in Kota Tua, Jakarta, Indonesia. It is one of several museums and galleries facing the Fatahillah square, which include Jakarta History Museum, Fine Art and Ceramic Museum, and Kota Post Office art gallery.

  7. Visit Museum Keramik: The Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics (Indonesian: Museum Seni Rupa dan Keramik) is a museum in Jakarta, Indonesia. The museum is dedicated especially to the display of traditional fine art and ceramics of Indonesia. The museum is located in the east side of Fatahillah square, near Jakarta History Museum, and Wayang Museum

  8. Visit Museum Bank Indonesia: Bank Indonesia Museum (Indonesian Museum Bank Indonesia) is a bank museum located in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was founded by Bank Indonesia and opened on July 21, 2009. The museum is a heritage building in Jakarta Old Town, which was the first headquarters of the Netherlands Indies Guild (De Javasche bank), the central bank of Dutch East Indies. The bank was nationalized as Bank Indonesia in 1953 after Indonesia gained its independence. The museum is closed on Mondays (including public holidays) and has an entrance fee of IDR 5,000. It is located next to Bank Mandiri Museum.

  9. Visit Museum Bank Mandiri: Bank Mandiri Museum (Indonesian Bank Mandiri Museum) is an economics museum located in the old banking district of Jakarta Old Town in northern Jakarta, Indonesia. The museum is housed in the former headquarters of the Netherlands Trading Society, one of the primary ancestors of ABN AMRO. The museum is closed on Mondays and public holidays. It is located next to Bank Indonesia Museum.

  10. Visit Kota Intan Bridge, etc…

But I really curious, do you (or anybody here) have reccomendations about attractions that related to art (modern/traditional), library, or hip places to visit around jakarta?
