Let's Talk About Sandwiches

I’m a huge foodie and as much as I’m intrigued by trendy dishes and expensive meals, when asked what my favorite food is I always say sandwiches. One of the things I love about them is how versatile they are, no matter what flavor profile you’re craving there’s a sandwich for it! There are also so many different types of sandwiches from one culture to another. I wanted to share a couple of my favorites in my area and see what other Local Guides have in their areas.

Genova Bakery

A Combo Sandwich- Genova Bakery

Genova Bakery serves up one of my absolute favorite sandwiches. They’ve been baking bread for over 100 years in Stockton, California. If you visit their small location you’ll find firetrucks parked nearby as they stop in to grab lunch. This Italian Deli brings the whole community together with their delicious bread and affordable sandwiches.

The sandwich in the photo was about $7 and is loaded with hot salami, hot coppa, havarti cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, mustard, olive oil, vinegar and local Bruno’s Peppers on fresh baked ciabatta bread.

I usually can only eat half of it before I’m full and I’ve been in so many times the staff recognizes me!

Corti Brothers

The Corti Special- Corti Brothers

In close second, Corti Brothers has an amazing selection of sandwiches up in Sacramento, California. Their Italian Grocery store is much bigger than Genova Bakery and they tend to be the place to get some of your more obscure ingredients. It’s definitely a Sacramento staple and I feel like any time Corti Brothers comes up in conversation people get really excited.

In this photo we have the Corti Special on Dutch Crunch with lettuce, tomato, peppers, pickles and mustard. The best part of the Corti Special is that they get to choose what kind of cold cuts to put on it, this means it’s slightly different from visit to visit depending on what the staff member decides to add to your order. They’re always stacked high though and so delicious.

I’ve shown you some of my favorites, tell me about yours. I’d love to hear about what makes a great sandwich for you and where the must visit spots are.
