Hello Everyone,
Yes you read it right, the challenge to CONNECT all places that could be of interest to people in general was my driving force behind getting into this wonderful program of being a LOCAL GUIDE.
I have been a traveller since my school days and had to struggle a lot even to find things, which look so simple today, like a bus stand or a bank ATM or if I have reached my destination when on a public transport. Simple is it. Not without the help of Internet and MAPS.
Once I hopped on a Bus from Delhi for a nearby destination Rohtak it took me about 5 hours to reach cause I had taken a longer route bus. Reached the place at midnight with no mobile and no one to help at that hour had to struggle with the Rickshaw puller to take me to the relatives place and even after 20 years I still remember the incident fresh.I am sure many of us have similar stories to tell and that’s the driving factor for me to keep posting updates on MAPS. Google has not only revolutionised the way we travel, it has given us a challenge to make this world more accessible, easy to use and friendly by connecting people around the globe to share places and ideas.
I come from a small town SILIGURI which otherwise was a place on the foothills of the Darjeeling hills but now you type it on MAPS and you will find the location (without any supporting description).
Initially when I started, my driving force was to update places of public interest like Banks,
Parks,
Bus Stands, Hospitals, Police Stations, Schools
the list can go on and on, these were the places which were still not properly located or something or the other was missing. Eventually as my levels grew I became more passionate about uploading more places both public and private with better location and updated information. By now MAPS had become a part of me and it also gave me the confidence to take pics publicly both for MAPS and also for my personal photography collection. Views of more than 150000 over all and level upgradation by Google MAPS kept the fire burning and I think the way google does it will keep me hooked to it for a long time to come. Got a lot to learn from the MAPS experience so far and if selected for Connect 2019 will have a lot to bring back and spread with my fellow local guides.
