LET'S SHARE A BIT OF FRANCE --- LAC D'AIGUEBELETTE

Hi Local Guides,

Today, I would like to share with you the place I have discovered recently. It is called Lac d’Aiguebelette.

Usually, during the summer, my family and I discover the world. We often travel to foreign countries.

This year, the plan was to make a road trip in north America and Canada. Unfortunatly, with covid-19, the trip was cancelled. We had to find something in France.

We decided to rent a Van and to visit some parts of France we didn’t know. Our goal was to stay at the Lac D’aiguebelette with friends.

Renting a van is a good experience as you can stop and park almost everywhere.

The first day, we drove for 6 hours and stopped in the Puy de Dome. It is a countryside where there are lot of old volcanos and it is in the middle of France. We felt like if we were alone in the world and the only noise we could hear was the sound of cowbells. It was such a great feeling and so relaxing.

After this first stop, we drove 3 more hours to reach our goal.

When we arrived, we immediately thought it was the perfect place to spend a few days.

The water is hot (27°c), there is no motoboat and the place is very quiet. It is perfect to rest, relax, make water activities such as swimming, paddle, snorekling. You can also rent small boats and pedalboat.

The last but not the least, the lac d’aiguebelette is based in Savoie which is a mountainus French department. It means it is a great place for hiking, paragliding, cycling, rafting and visiting.

From there, we visited 2 main places the Old Annecy city and the Fier Gorges.

When I was younguer, I could imaging spending my summer holidays in the moutains as summer holidays was synonymous to beaches. Since I have discovered The Verdon Gorge last year as discribed in this post, I really enjoy spending times in the moutains during summer. It is quiet, relaxing and mother nature at her best.

What do you enjoy during summer holiday? Have you tried roadtrip van?

I hope you have enjoyed discovering the Savoie and the Lac D’aiguebelette in France.

If you want to discover more French places you can follow this link and if you plan a trip to France don’t hesitate to ask for tips.

See you around

Julien

Hi @Julien44

Nice to hear that although you and your family cannot go abroad this summer, but at least you guys could spend a great experience in your own country. Sometimes this is what we need to explore our country more and find the hidden gems there

Lac d’Aiguebelette looks like the perfect getaway. Everything about it is very calming, the surroundings, the lake and it’s absolutely fantastic that it offers such a diversity of activities that people can experience. Definitely adding it to my bucket list. :slightly_smiling_face: Thank you, @Julien44 for sharing your trip with us! I really enjoyed reading every bit of it.

For me, this summer was pretty much focused on home renovation, but usually we go camping with the family. Water is definitely our go-to destination for summer, as we all enjoy surfing and snorkeling, well probably expect the dogs, but on the bright side they enjoy digging holes at the beach, so in the end everyone is happy.

Hi @Julien44 !

Fantastic Holidays you had discovering France in a van :minibus: .

Yes, looking at the first collage it seems you were the only ones in theworld :earth_africa:

Your kids must have enjoyed all that watersports in the lakes.

I can see a lot of people in the Old Annecy city, that bridge is crowded!!! The mountains and inland tourism :mountain_biking_man: are gaining space on the beaches :beach_umbrella: .

Answering your last question, I have done many roadtrips with my parents when I was a kid. One summer we made almost all Spanish perimeter.

A big big hug from the South of Spain,

Alejandra.

Thank you @imtiazahmed829 for your kind words.

I am glad you enjoyed the pictures and I am very happy that you have discovered a place closed to where you live. I am sure you will have a great time there @christophesubilia

You are right @Velvel . This situation has given us an opportunity to discover nice places in our own country !

Thanks @KlaudiyaG for your lovely comments. Camping is very relaxing. The best bit is to stay outside all day.

This post has given me the opportunity to learn some more about you @AlejandraMaria . I would love to travel around Spain with a van.

Hey my friend @Julien44 , very nice post, the lake looks like so beautiful, the landscapes are fantastic and so relaxing.

I find very interesting driving around so that you can stop anywhere you want, we often travel by planes or other transportation systems and we go straight away to a point while we miss some very beautiful places, maybe less known, along the way.

Nice trip, I think it was a good one also with the change of plans  . Thank you for sharing your travel experience!

It’s great to see that now after Lockdown and Pandemic situations, things are going in the right ways, at betterment. And you were able to travel to the country.

The photos which you shared in your post, that’s feels like a dream place for me, and if you have your family with you, nothing is better than it.

I really love these lines

"We felt like if we were alone in the world and the only noise we could hear was the sound of cowbells. It was such a great feeling and so relaxing. " and feel it by heart.

Thanks for sharing such a beautiful post with wonderful write-up.

Shukriya  @Julien44

Hello @Julien44

Nice post!

It is really perfect idea to explore your own country. These places are really attractive and wonderful. I suppose you had a perfect relaxing there in quiet and piece.

So beautiful nature!

It is interesting for me about roadtrip Van. How it looks inside? Is it comfortable for family-to sleep and cook meals.

Could you show the photo of Van?

How many days your trip was?

Best regards,

Inna.

@LuigiZ at the end, yes the change of plans was good. I have in my mind to visit north of Italy and its beautiful lakes. Have you been there?

@KashifMisidia Thank you for your kind words. It was very nice to spend time with the family and there was no risk of catching the covid19 as you can see here.

@helga19 Here are some more pics.

To be honest,it is a good experience but as there is always a but… It is very small so we had to tidy up too often. To sleep to wake up, to have lunch and this was the hardest point. We really enjoyed this trip but we think about doing it again with a much bigger one with more place to tidy up and also with more confort. We had all the need stuff (cooker, toilet and small solar shower). We stayed in autonomy 1 max 2 nights and then we had to go to camping in order to recharge the batteries and for water.

Our trip was 14 days but we stay almost a week at the Aiguebelette lake.

Oh wonderful @Julien44 perhaps we can meet each other when you will do that trip!

Yes there are beautiful spots and I have been at Lago di Garda and Lago di Como, both very nice, they are not so small and they have several places all around. For sure @ErmesT or @FlavioDA know the area better than me  .

I’m very disappointed @Julien44 !! Where’s a picture of you by the lake with your shirt off?!?! It would have easily made Connect’s number 1 post! :joy:

Thanks for the share… and although you missed out on the trip to North America/Canada, I have to say that looking at the photos, your backup plan turned out amazingly well and you probably saved a fortune too! Lac d’Aiguebelette looks amazing and I’m sure the family enjoyed it all too! Quick question… how did the kids survive the long drives?

@AdrianLunsong Ah ah, I keep these pictures for myself

This kids are used to long drives as we travel often (car, plane, train, bus) and they mainly stay cool during that time.

We also allow them to use screens for about one hour during long drive (above 3-4 hours). To be honest, the end of the drive is often complicated as they get exited to arrive. I usualy have to ask them (many times) to stop exiting themself as it is disturbing too much. They have a preference for planes because they use the screens (movies, games…)

@AbdullahAM I hope you will have the chance to visit France one day. I would be please to give you tips ! Thanks for your nice comments!
