LET'S SHARE A BIT OF FRANCE --- CAUTERETS

Hi guys,

This week, my familly and I went to the south west of France, in Cauterets exactly.

We went there for skiing. Every year, we take one week break to go in mountains to do skiing. Usually, we go in the french Alpes but this year we decided to go to the Pyrenees.

As it was a discovery for us and I thought it would be great to share it with you.

This week was just perfect, we had sun, snow and we did skiing and hikking. What esle could we ask for?

The first 3 days were very sunny and the snow melted. So we were happy to enjoy the sun but to be honest it was a bit hard to ski in the afternoons as the snow wasn’t very good.

Lucky us, after these first 3 days, it snowed. We were all very happy because it gave some good snow to ski and it always magical when it snow even if it is hard to ski in such conditions.

There, we also did 2 hikes in the National parc of the Pyrenees.

The first time we discovered the Pont d’Espagne . It is so called because it used to be a way to reach Spain by the moutains. As you can see, it reminds the Canadian parks. I have never been to Canada but people said that when we were there.

It was great as it was an easy hike, it was also an opportunity to appreciate the nature and to rest.

As we went there too late, we couldn’t go to the lac of Gaube and we decided to go back there few days after.

To go to the Lac de Gaube , you can either hike or take the gondola. As we were with the kids, we took the gondola  and walked for only 30mn.

As you can imagine, we had a wonderful week and we look forward to go back there in the futur.

The last but not the least, we proudly carried the Local Guides bag all week!

Do you like skiing? Do you think the Pont d’Espagne look like the Canadian Parks?

I hope this post has given you the desir to visit France and particulary the Pyrenees!

Do you plan a trip to France? Do you need any advices ? If yes, don’t hesitate to contact me!

@Julien44 I don’t know how to ski. I don’t know ifthe Pont d’Espagne look like the Canadian Parks. Currently I don’t have any plan to visit France. But this post makes me want to visit it. And yes, if I need some advises, I will contact you. :slightly_smiling_face:

For the Pont d’Espagne and the Lac de Gaube :

  1. How long should we spend time there?
  2. Is there any public transportation to these places?
  3. Is there any hotel in the area?

I look forward to your answers.

@Julien44 Thank you for your reply. Some more questions :

  1. Which airport should I fly to?
  2. From the airport, do I take a train to the park?

I wish someday I can visit the park.

@Ant_Bad_Yogi , the easiest would be to fly to Toulouse

And then take a train to Lourdes (2h) as you can find here.

From Lourdes, there are a buses for around 1h.

Hi @Julien44

Wow that is breathtaking! I’ve never been to that part of France, just the French Alps, which to me are amazing as well. The views are just amazing and I love the park without the snow. It looks really relaxing! What was your favorite thing? :slightly_smiling_face:

Ahhh Cauterets !
