Let's Meet-Up isn't a dating/casual sex service

Hi Local Guides,

Lately there seem to be quite a few posts from people who are looking for a date or who are seeking sex. That isn’t what this board is about. Let’s Meet-Up is for promoting group Meetups that conform to the Local Guides policy and rules where we get together for Mapping, Photography, Walking in our communities, etc.

Regards Paul

This forum has no barrier of entry, so I don’t think it is all that surprising… There had been complaints from female members of harassment too.

From what I read some of the posts, some members are desperate to improve their lives circumstances by hoping romance to a foreign place will allow them to immigrate (illegal in most countries)… some are just malicious postings. There seems to be a whole gamut of reasons.

It would be nice if Google itself have a clear Code of Conduct for this Forum instead of a members driven one. Then again perhaps they already have their hands full.

@arjunsbmp that isn’t a call I can make - the Connect Moderators (the ones without Google in the name) are LG just like you. Our “powers” are very limited - choices like that need to be made by Googlers.

@WetCoastCanuck there is a very clear code of conduct in the Local Guides Rules

@JohnnyE these are normal human things and they happen on all platforms

@ShafiulB indeed

All - if you see someone being harassed as @WetCoastCanuck mentioned, whether it be via DM or via public messages please encourage them to report the message as inappropriate. The Googlers do look at all the reports. It may take a while for something to happen and there are always as many stories as there are people in an issue but I know that they will investigate. For clarity the Connect Moderators do not see these reports or information. The Googlers investigate and where someones behaviour falls outside the rules action is taken.

If the harassment is public it is the duty of every LG to simply say, “No, that is not ok. Don’t do that again.” or if you’re not comfortable doing that at least report the post and say there privately why it’s not ok.

I get that @PaulPavlinovich , as active member of Google+ communities yourself, I bet you are aware how we (owners of large communities) are dealing with lot of spam/nudity/pornography but I couldn’t believe that could happen here among LG’s.

Ah yes @JohnnyE the joys of a community owner, some of the "delightful" things we get to look at for the sake of keeping our community clean. I check the spam queue here from time to time and it is similar but we need to check it to release any legitimate posts that get caught up occasionally.

Exactly @PaulPavlinovich the joy of a community owner. My community almost reached 600k members. It’s very difficult to find trustworthy moderators. I have 3 active mods and we are somehow manage to deal with over 200+ spam posts daily beside posts which passed Google+ filters. You understand what I am talking about. Hope new feature we are discussing in EA will be announced soon. So Connect is similar, you have spam queue as well. Didn’t know that.

@JohnnyE is the spam getting past the filters or is it in the spam moderation queue? If the former, make sure you edit your community preferences and turn on stronger content filtering.

That is part of the issue @user_not_found imagine how scary it could be for a person when they start to receive the concentrated attention from someone overseas who hassles them on their socials, hangouts, and if they can get the details even by phone and text messages not to mention the decidedly sad boy practice of sending people pics of their bits. I’ve seen it first hand, on g+ I created a female persona along with my normal account so I could understand the issue to support my friends and work within the Google EA program to help eradicate the practice - I was astonished at the kinds of approaches that target that account. The account isn’t even particularly active yet they still find it by searching.

I understand @PaulPavlinovich , I know what about you are talking… But on other hand you must understand (New generations - New age - New rules).

Younger people use online platforms completely different then we. They are grow by using internet platforms for chat and talking… They have online life…

But still this topic u started is slightly different from that…

We have rules for each platform, if someone do not follow those rules…well many people do not follow rules and nothing… Spam photo, fake reviews, double accounts, advertising…etc.

Also, we All coming from different places and sometimes by being just polite to someone can be interpreted wrongly… But ok there is bad people with bad intentions. Private profiles can be locked, all people must learn how to protect themselves on internet, that’s all.

Yes absolutely @user_not_found general changes introduce interesting new thoughts and ideas. I work in a youth movement as a volunteer and am around people much younger than me regularly. I see the changes coming. The next generation is a capable and determined bunch. They deserve the world :).

I also agree that a person from one culture can say something that a person from another culture will find disturbing, offensive or even insulting. The world is a challenging place.

That’s why we have rules :).

Regards Paul

If I may @PaulPavlinovich

Rules, almost all successful people did not follow rules because if they are, they would not become successful…

If some man follow rules about talking to women, she will chose some other man…

Etc…

@PaulPavlinovich it’s turned on from the very beginning. It was much worse at the end of the last year. It was like spam war, but now filters are stronger and rarely some spam post goes through. However Hold for Review is turned on and that’s huge help even though we have to check it several times per day to approve appropriate posts and it’s time consuming. Known and trusted members are able to post directly to the community but all others are limited and their posts are held for review.

I’m sorry @user_not_found but that is not ok. You need to follow her rules, anything else is at the least harassment at worst abuse. Rape comes from someone who didn’t follow the rule of “no”. That may seem like an extreme view, but really it isn’t. One action can destroy a life.

I did not mean on that… @PaulPavlinovich nevermind…

One better example, if u learn rules in photography and stick on using those rules apsolutly…u will never have great photos…

Now that I can agree with @user_not_found  Know the photo rules so you can break them knowingly.

Hhahahhaab,.
