Iām a big fan of cats, not domestic cats but forest stripes. I have been a fan of lions since I first visited Gir ten years ago, yet today is a special day dedicated to them so here i am going back to Gir.
Gir forest is the only natural habitat of Asian lions in Gujarat. Last year I traveled to the location and was surprised to see a huge number of them. They are often found seen straying into the human world however conflicts are neither reported or are rare.
Every year August 10th is celebrated to save the global lion population from extinction and for its conservation and sustainable solutions. It also helps us understand the ways and means of preserving their natural habitat and environment.
Thanks for sharing this nice post @NareshDarji . Animals play a very important role in the ecological balance of this universe. Without them, human beings cannot exist. We must take care so that they can survive naturally. Not only the lions we should take care of other wild animals also. We should kill them for any reason. We do not have wild lions in Bangladesh but we have the Royal Bengal Tiger and we are proud of it. Your post will definitely help the other local guides to think about how to save the wild lions in their regions. Regards.
Since there are so many lions, there must be many other animals as well around to support the food chain, what are some other animals that you see in Gir?
It is surprising that whereas there are dozens of Tiger reserves in India, only one exists for Lions.
Gir is high on my bucket-list and hope to visit it some day. Thanks for showing an impressive photo of a lion in natural habitat.
@NareshDarji Good post. In India lion population count is only 523(109 adult male lions, 201 adult females and rest are cubs). And Gujrat is leading the table of highest lion populations in India. Thanks for letting know about GIR.
I totally agree with you @MukulR . Many wild species in the world today are on the verge of extinction and awareness is needed to save them. In my opinion, in order to save such wildlife, we should make every effort to bring awareness among the people.
Gir is home not only to lions but also to many wild animals. Here you can see many animals like leopard, deer, Hyena, neelgai, chinkara, fox and many others.
I hope we get together and visit Gir after this pandemic condition.
The numbers of lions has increased today due to the worthy work of the Gujarat forest department. @FalguniP
As far as I know, according to the Lion census 2020 good increase in the numbers of lions. Currently more than 670 lions are recorded in Gir @TPattanaik
Very interesting post @NareshDarji Gir National Park is my wishlist. Here in Sanjay Gandhi National Park there is one Lion and one Lioness but not free. They are in big locked area. Photo is nicely captured. Nice to see your post on King of Animal. Thanks for sharing it with us .
Great you highlight the importance of (wildlife) conservation @NareshDarji . We have to be very careful with all the worlds ecosystems as humans are harming them in many ways. We wouldnāt want to loose the King of the Jungle.
I extra care for lions as my Zodiac sign is Leo!
Great post @NareshDarji ji. After catās day it was Lionās day. the sequence is great. And Gir Aranya is really a great place to enjoy nature. Is this photo taken by you? It is really great!
