Leaving Reviews

I LOVE sharing when I find a great product or service, but I think it’s just as important to share negative experiences, too. My question is: does anyone have any tips or advice for me about leaving negative reviews? I think there should be some guidelines, as a bad review can certainly hurt a company. How do I express a negative review fairly and without unnecessarily hurting someone’s business?

Hello @crackerjack9

It’s possible to share a negative experience in a harmonious manner.

The recipient may debate but can’t challenge somebody’s suffering.

However, composing a review in an emotionally charged posture and inclusive of objectionable words is unwelcome.

Hi @crackerjack9

This is a good question

you can find an help on the Local Guides program Help Page, with special attention to: Tips for writing great reviews

In fact, a great review can be also negative (not bad, negative)

"Keep it real: Be authentic. Review your own experience, and explain why you liked or disliked the place. Try to be as accurate as possible, and include both the positive and negative aspects of your visit.

Be respectful: Not every experience with a place is going to be perfect. Sometimes you’ll want to share negative feedback. Even if you’re frustrated, make sure your criticism is constructive. Business owners often use feedback to improve their offerings"

Please remember that also a negative review, if written in the appropriate way, can help the business to improve

@crackerjack9 I would like to add one thing: if you want to express that your experience at a place was not so good, it is best to clearly express that what you write is your experience and not present it as a fact. To give a specific example: do not write “they offer very poor service”, but rather “compared to what I am used to in other places, I found the service very poor here”.

Thank you! I don’t actually HAVE any bad reviews to give, but I’m sure it may happen at some point in time. I appreciate your feedback!

Thank you for your feedback. I hope I never need to leave a negative review, but in real life-i’m sure it happens!
